Pullets do that half the time. It’s really too early up here for me to mess with em yet

Yep, just haven't had one for a while. Yes, I am really pushing the envelope. The past two springs have been really early and it has worked out, but this year seems like the cold came back.

This cold snap messed up things for me. One young pullet freaked out and kept getting off the nest as the eggs were hatching. I managed to save one chick. Another older hen laid a clutch and sat for a couple of days and decided she was done. Guess I will have to wait a little longer.

man sounds like you had a disaster on your hands. Hope they getvit together and lock it down for you.

I have some questions about Game hens. I am hoping the knowledgeable folks can answer them. I had put out some feelers looking for a broody hen. I had an offer for a couple game hens. I have heard they go broody often and are very protective mothers. My question is are they reliable in the brooding area and are they like the roosters of their breed. Meaning do I have to keep them separate from the main flock. I can handle assertive but don't want outright mean and aggressive. I want to do right by whatever breed I bring in for the mothering role.

Depends on the individual hen. Most game hens with chicks are pretty aggresssive. There’s plenty of other breeds to choose from other than gamefowl if all your looking for is a broody.

If they're truly gamefowl they'll fight and they'll fight any treat to their chicks. If you get game hens you'll have to keep them in separate pens in order to raise your chicks.
