I heard and read that a nice smooth face is a sign of good breeding methods. A rough face with line and such is a signal of cheap breeding.

I think I like clean faces... but I havent paid much attention to it to notice whether mine are smooth or not.

Im not sure if genetics or environment would play a bigger part... hydration for example... or sickness or even age..

Seems like oriental blood brings with it an uglier bird. If your talking after dubbing that’s a different story. Some I’ve done a great job on and some well not so much.

Like this mystery hen I have, has lines running all throughout her face.
She's not breeding this year, just waiting till she goes broody to put some top secret eggs under her.

The lines I'm talking about run in front of the eyes and follow the beak to the jaw. They look like indentions.
