They get about 4 hours of direct sun in the morning. It has been getting hot but I did not think too hot.

I’ve had hens start sitting on eggs at night for a few days before they start sitting constantly. It wasn’t cold out either. Not sure why some do that. Never a good hatch with that nonsense.

I did not watch closely enough to catch that. Too much going on. It is already too late for rearing chicks anyway so will likely give up and prepare adults for molting.

I was gonna let a few more hatch some but I think I’m done. I’ve got 21. That’s plenty.

Havoc, I have some hens that will do that too and it used to bother me. I am not sure why they do it, but have not had trouble with the hatches from those hens. There must be a reason for it. Usually, I date and mark the eggs in each nest and the hens that cover the eggs at night are still laying the last 2-3 days.

How do you prepare your birds for molting?

Up protein for males and cease calcium supplementation for hens. More invested in shading birds as well because it is going to be getting a lot warmer. Will also move pens more where practical as grass will be more delicate.
