I have a blue red male that is throwing this color, so far they have turned out to be stags.
There’s 2 chicks like this in the bunch. They both have the blue hue in the wings. The other chicks that are black and blue are the same breeding.

Be careful guys when checking traps. When approaching one trapped raccoon another raccoon came blasting out of the woods 5 ft away. I changed his mind real quick too but you just never know what might happen. Lol

Bet that was a surprise! About how many raccoons will an area support? It seems like they just keep coming this year. I have caught a good sized male the last three nights.

Really depends on the area. I’ve caught between 20-30 in one year just from my yard without ever setting a trap in the woods. New ones will just keep moving in if the habitat is good. Figure if you catch one there’s probably about 10 in the area usually more.
Fur prices are really low. The populations will get out of control here real soon.

Some of apparent abundance due to outright quality of an area as a pathway between two or more locations having resources the Raccoons need. If you are along a stream or draw that is between a marshy / swampy area and an energy rich location like a corn field you can have apparent densities way above what is actual. I am lucky as very little water here that provides good protein and not much is supplied by the pastures. Down side is neighbors feeding outdoor pets that makes up for some of natural shortfall. I have killed less than 5 over last 18 months while brother is well into the 30's just since spring. He maintains a large compost heap with about 5 acres of sweet corn right next to a brook. You can get tired of catching a raccoon almost every night even if they are not getting your birds.
