Fresh cut branches will obviously lose moisture and season over time. They shrink down down quite a bit and should probably be changed out every now and then too.

Y r u switching back? I use 2in pvc pipe in almost all of mine just wanted to get others input

I've had bad luck with pvc, any kind of wood is working well for me.
Even the bamboo lol

Branches are free and more natural for a chicken to roost on.

The pvc is free I do masonry work and get it off the jobsite

I've not had a problem with there feet yet and have been using the pvc for about 1 1/2yrs now. What kind of feet problems could it produce?

I have never used pvc. I would think it would be too slippery like sdm said. I get a lot of cold and snow too so I wouldn’t use it.
Seems like the birds would have to squeeze their feet tighter than normal to stay on the roost. No experience with it though.
