Reason why I do not like using ground feed out of a bag.
This one was caught in murky water that was about 3 ft deep.

I can get them to change color based on background and mood. Those like the slate colored fish above are outside the range that is normal. They lack the yellow and red pigments typical of all sunfish because they are not getting it from the diet.

You’re as bad as the people that post “help my rooster is sick” but nothing else. Lol
 
I’ve caught fish in colder months that were every bit as pale as those you pictured.
I’ve read some about all that before. I remember reading about a lot of it has to do with the weeds and depth because of sun light. Some people have said the opposite the muddier the water the more silver look to them where you can’t even see the lateral line. I don’t know. You’re saying it has to do with feed?
