These birds came from a lady who got her stock from Sand Hill about 5 years ago & she said nothing elese has been bread into them, I saw the hens & rooster & they looked good, any one else got birds of this line ?

I used a Sandhill rooster over Braden girls and did get some brown on the chicks. They hatched last March. Today all the brown is gone and they look really pretty good. I sure was concerned about it when they were chicks but everything worked out fine.

FWIW, my other breeds from Sand Hill have all kinds of off colors. My Dels from them don't have brown but aren't marked like they should be.
I really like Sand Hill but I don't think having the barn painted the right color is a priority for them.

I finished my run area!!! The chickens are much happier now that they have 3500 sq feet to run around in.

Here is a video of the run and an update of my delaware chickens (now 12 weeks old)

Stevenson, they're all looking wonderful! Love that little cockerel that had to poke his beak in the camera lens at the very end.

Ain't that just like a Del?

You mentioned you're hoping for eggs from them in another month?

I don't think I'd hold my breath. The earliest I've ever heard of any pullet laying was 18 weeks. If memory serves me, that was a little BR of SpeckledHen's just this last spring. I could be wrong. Check with her.

Love the new run too. That must have cost a small fortune just in field fencing alone!

I'd give my eyeteeth to be able to give my flock such a big run with so much grass! Sadly, in this country [Eastern Washington] wild grass that stays green in the middle of summer is as rare as,....well....as rare as hen's teeth!

Beautiful set up there guy!

Can't wait to see how the coop turns out once you have that done. Tell me, are there any windows in it? I didn't see any on the front or side that you showed in your video. Just a nickel's worth of free advice: Chickens love natural light. The more you can bring into your coop, the better! Especially during the winter months. South facing windows act as passive solar in the winter and can help raise the temperature by as much as ten degrees on a cold clear day. Food for thought!

The roo does have good type although it kinda doesn't look like it here. He just wouldn't cooperate his stance with me trying to take pics. They are so curious and active when they see me coming or hanging around them; hard to get them to stay still.

PS They are 4 months old.
