Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I most assuredly will keep everyone posted, I love these babies, though POL is a ways off for me, it sounds like you can expect some nice pullet eggs in the next few days to a week,
My first mixed batch of chicks is laying 5 of the 10 and the nest digging thing has held true within a few days, they even rolled my plastic fake eggs out on the floor a few times along with most if not all of the shavings. LOL
My chicks came from Purely poultry, via cackle, not sure yet on how well they will hold up too scrutiny, but I juts love them perfect or not, they are so friendly, and talkative, love treats, love to play pick the shavings off moms pants, and the like. So even if they have every fault hatchery chicks usually have I don't care, I plan to maintain a mixed flock anyway and will not likely breed them on purpose to another Delaware roo, unless of course I come across an awsum rooster then I just might try my hand at it. My flock is as follows.
rooster no. 1 EE,
rooster no. 2 Fred The White Wyandotte
extra roo in case I get a meany is a Barred Rock.
My girls are
1 BR
1 BO laying
1 EE
1 SLW laying
1 White Wyandotte
2 Delawares
4 Speckled Sussex, I have a thing about spots LOL I have an Appaloosa, and a paint too...also why I love the look of the dels.....
2 White rocks
3 BSL laying or very close to it, not sure yet who is actually laying I just know I got 5 eggs the other day for the first time and before that it was 3 after Henrietta layed her first egg in my shirt, lol and Suzi 1 of the BSL has been laying since 8/2 so will have to get up early one morning and go watch who is laying me these nice little brown eggs... weird thing is they are all a different color brown, from very light to almost terra cotta. and none are Welsummers or Marans?? so, I do think the dark eggs are from the BSL though because Suzi lays in the same nest box every morning. Right before I let them outa the coop for the day.

Here is one of my young roosters I hatched out of Rebel Roosters eggs, they are very friendly & a good looking bird.

How old is your rooster? Any idea what his weight is? He is a good looking bird. I am going to get some eggs from Rebel Rooster once his chickens are laying better. I have some Brayden (sp) Delly chicks right now in the brooder and I am looking to get some standards for what I should be seeing for size, color and growth rate for them as they grow up.

He is a little over 10 weeks old, I dont know what his weight is, but I ended up with 2 roosters & a nice little pullet, I also have another line comeing up I got from a nice lady here in NC. who got her stock from Sand Hill about 5 years ago, I am going to cross these 2 lines & go from there, I think they will do good.

Sounds like a good idea. I am trying something similar. The seven I have in the brooder now are from the Brayden line and I have another 24 eggs that should be coming from Rebel Rooster once the hens start laying again. I figure between the two lines I should have enough diversity to go for quite some time if I play my cards right. I am going to be breeding for growth rate and size and health as my primary characteristics but since I am new to the breed I am kind of learning as I go. Hoping that they will start laying in early spring and be fertile so that I can get some good eggs for the next generation.

Cute chicks! I'm interested in how they develop. I'm on Bill Braden's waiting list, since it's too hot to ship eggs. Did you pick yours up from his farm?

Someone mentioned pullet eggs. It's strange... I never got any small eggs from my Dels. They just started laying large brown eggs right off and have been laying every day, since. These are the best egg layers I've ever had!

No I got my Braden eggs from HighSpringChix here on BYC. They are very hearty chicks and are doing very well but only a week old as of yesterday. The eggs were a good size too. I am just worried they are all boys since I only got 7 lol. So far they have been extremely friendly and are very laid back. They don't run away when I try to pick them up or freak out when I clean out the brooder. They are already starting to explore when I let them out to clean which I am not used to because normally the chicks are skittish at a week old.

They did not have any at the Newaygo county fair either

They did not have very many breeds at all. A lot of the cornish x's and a lot of bantams. Only a couple of BR's that did not look that great at all and no New Hampshires, Austrolorps etc....
