I most assuredly will keep everyone posted, I love these babies, though POL is a ways off for me, it sounds like you can expect some nice pullet eggs in the next few days to a week,
My first mixed batch of chicks is laying 5 of the 10 and the nest digging thing has held true within a few days, they even rolled my plastic fake eggs out on the floor a few times along with most if not all of the shavings. LOL
My chicks came from Purely poultry, via cackle, not sure yet on how well they will hold up too scrutiny, but I juts love them perfect or not, they are so friendly, and talkative, love treats, love to play pick the shavings off moms pants, and the like. So even if they have every fault hatchery chicks usually have I don't care, I plan to maintain a mixed flock anyway and will not likely breed them on purpose to another Delaware roo, unless of course I come across an awsum rooster then I just might try my hand at it. My flock is as follows.
rooster no. 1 EE,
rooster no. 2 Fred The White Wyandotte
extra roo in case I get a meany is a Barred Rock.
My girls are
1 BR
1 BO laying
1 EE
1 SLW laying
1 White Wyandotte
2 Delawares
4 Speckled Sussex, I have a thing about spots LOL I have an Appaloosa, and a paint too...also why I love the look of the dels.....
2 White rocks
3 BSL laying or very close to it, not sure yet who is actually laying I just know I got 5 eggs the other day for the first time and before that it was 3 after Henrietta layed her first egg in my shirt, lol and Suzi 1 of the BSL has been laying since 8/2 so will have to get up early one morning and go watch who is laying me these nice little brown eggs... weird thing is they are all a different color brown, from very light to almost terra cotta. and none are Welsummers or Marans?? so, I do think the dark eggs are from the BSL though because Suzi lays in the same nest box every morning. Right before I let them outa the coop for the day.
