Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

keckels ...... thanks for sharing your pictures with us! Good luck with your Delaware flock!

I didn't reply, Zanna, because I just really don't know what to tell ya.
I wish I knew the genetics of that beak color. I will say though, I have had some hatch with a dark strip that has later gone away.

By "curly feathers," are you referring to the bird having a cushion? Or, are the feathers actually curly?

The feathers look curly instead of smooth, I will try to get a close-up picture. Also, a lot of the pullets have quite a cushion..........
If no one else has thoughts on the black beak, I will just test breed her to Daddy and see what comes of it :)

Here is a picture of one of my white leghorns and a close up of her feathers. The next two pics. are of the Mom of the black beaked pullet and a close up of her feathers. Many of the feathers on the cushion are separated if that makes sense and gives a curly look. What do you all think???

Those look like old, shredded feathers just before the molt. They're just damaged, not curly.

Several of her pullet offspring hatched Oct. 1st, 2011 have the curlies, mostly just on the cushion area (posted a pic. of one a few posts back with a question about her top beak being black)............... Does anyone know if this a bad thing to be passing on??? This hen puts a lot more colour and nice yellow legs on her babies (as well as the barn I am working towards!) when bred to my roo so I plan to keep using her unless there is a good reason not to. I have kept two of her sons (none of the baby boys had the curly feathers) who are an improvement over Dad and plan to breed her back to the one I deem the best............... Also her pullets back to Dad............. I really appreciate your input! Want to make the best informed decisions I can and the more opinions the better.

Want to resurrect this thread....wow...who would have thought 3 weeks would pass without someone posting here!

I have 12 Del chicks in the brooder and 30+ eggs in the incubator. Plan on hatching as many as I can this year (hoping to go 150-200).

I hope to have my F3s (Project Delaware) on the ground this summer. I have penned the F2s, who are at point of lay. Any day now..... any day.

I have 3 females and 8 males (soon to be culled to 4, I think). I am starting out with this F2 male in the breeder pen.

Um Um Um, That is one handsome boy. Hope I can find one like him in the eggs you sent. The pullets should all be swooning.
