They just got into a habit of picking at him when his wattles got really dirty once and went overboard. Now, it's an ingrained habit and I absolutely refuse to mop up blood, cauterize wounds and keep him separate for most of his days; it's not fair and he's done nothing wrong. Ike is just a love, he really is and he is super-protective of his ladies, comes charging across the property when they yell, ready to do battle. He's just exemplary so far, he really is. Unless someone pays me some good money for that boy and his ladies as a package (which wouldn't solve the problem since the problem would be going with him), he can stay and watch over the rest of the laying flock and they can go, if I can't break them of it.
