Can Delaware hens crow like roosters?? I have one that is supposed to be a hen, and we watched her crow! There is a rooster in the flock too - altho not Delaware.

If the ovary in the hen is not producing estrogen to make her lay then the testes will take over . They have both and whichever is dominate wins out. Sometimes it is temperary sometimes not.

That should get you started.

The quality of hatchery Delawares has deteriorated since 60s - there are a few serious breeder that are bringing them back by re creation and select breeding.
But its still a work in progress.

Pretty- love white chickens on green grass- wish we had some here but its been cold, cold cold . At least for us southerners. And now its snowing and I actually saw a groundhog out today trying to find something to eat. ????
He must be crazy and should have stayed in hibernation.
