Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Thanks Laney and speckledhen! That's pretty much what I was thinking as well. Thanks, for commenting on my birds, I really appreciate the advice!! I didn't really know where to start until I read this thread. These are my first chickens so I am a bit of a newbie to all this, but I do take pride in my new work and want to do it right...the FIRST time

I'll be lurking picking up bits and pieces of advice from the more experienced folks and hopefully by this time next year I may have some more impressive babies to post pics of!

Oh, and yes the second roo has 5 point comb. The lightness may be the sunlight from that pic, he is actually quite dark, but I will keep that in mind to bring out the barring in the tail in the future. You folks are awesome with all the advice!!! Keep it coming!!!

Thanks Cynthia! Nice name by the way, I don't know many more Cynthia's

So, what traits should I breeding out of him if any? Please keep posting!! I won't reply, as I am headed out to church, but I will love to have more info/advice to read when I get back!!! Thanks again!!!

Trust me I didn't know anything about breeding for type etc until I started with all these folks here

I'm just good at regurgitating what I hear. I've been looking at everyones beautiful birds and absorbing. One day folks are going to say "Oh you want a Delaware? You should talk to Laney".

Oh well, I'm dreaming, and up in the clouds because today Helen laid her first egg! Pics to follow.

Welcome Cindiloohoo!! We still need to design a flag, so that may be for another day

Everyone has said what can be said about your birds, and they are bery beautiful. The Delaware is probably one of my favorites, hence the name

Cynthia, everytime you post Isaac, I get the quizers. What a broad boy! And so handsome!

Ladyhawk, your boys and girls are beautiful. Suedes children and himself are ALWAYS welcome here. I wish my little mixed cockerel would man up to the other boys and protect his girls. He lives with two girls, and 5 boys and a pullet live together in another pen. I put them together some days outside and they try to eat the red girls feathers and play keep away with his other pullet

Lemme tell ya, its a field day, so I end up putting up a divider for the poor babies.

Joletabey, I'mma pushin'! Beautiful snow pictures, though! Over 12 inches, gosh. Its 5:40 here right now, and I'm watching about your snow on the news!

I'm so proud of my girl. And on top of it all, she laid that egg in the coop. My Silver Phoenix girl laid her egg today outside the coop right at the entrance!

We've made progress in the "stupid themselves to death" category. Tonight most of the others followed the Delaware's lead and were in the coop when I went to put them in. I only had to put in 5 birds. Now if only they would all be in there! No goat to share with tonight though.

Isaac is gorgeous!! That's the body type my big roo has, can't tell from that pic, but he is really a nice looking one...except for those dang feather patterns!! Maybe I will try to work with him a little to get correct type if little roo doesn't turn out quite right. I may not be as bad off as I thought. I didn't even know which was correct until I found this forum...internet has very little to say on Del's. It feels good to ...kinda...know what I am in for now

Thor currently has 3 women...Athena his blue orp half sister, Fattie and Cannonball, the Dellies. When he is older, he is getting my splash cochin and my red cochin...maybe the 2 buff orps...we will see about them. It is hard to get a picture of Fattie and Cannonball without Thor being in the picture...he is always with his girls.

My EE, Draco is a butthead and may end up in a stew pot if his attitude does not change...and the other one, Sirius, will shove the girls out of the way to eat and I do not like that either...but he is still young so time may save him.

Welcome Cindiloohoo...this is the place for Delli madness! Isaac is indeed a hunk and from what Cyn says, he is a real joy and a great roo.
