Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Merry Christmas all you Dellie "nuts"!! I moved Sasha (pullet from Issac and Kira) in with Pepper and Lil Bit last night after dark. She is a "no-nonsense" gal. Went to check on her first thing this morning and SHE was pickin' at the grown Partridge Rock girls (half again her size). Guess I won't worry too much about her.

I re-homed my Lil Del Roosters this morning. A gentleman from Jasper, Ga came and got them to give to his grandkids for Christmas. So I am down to just my 6 pullets (pretty sure they are all girls).

One is Sweet Pea (the lil dwarf chick) and the other 5 are yet to be named. Looks like 4 of the 6 will be normal sized, but one of those 4 is still VERY, VERY lightly colored. Her back is still completely white. Does have some good tail black underneath but no black at all on her hackles or wings (yet)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Yea for a new Phoebe baby! Scott, I'm glad I got you hooked on these.

Isaac's ladies are still living in the Firetower, except for his daughter, Gracie, who better start laying soon. She's already being mated and has filled out beautifully; she is your Sasha's full sister. I let the main laying flock, led by big Ike, out with the Delaware ladies, but first thing in the a.m., when roosters are usually very frisky, we put Isaac in the Del pen with the girls. Interestingly enough, he dances and flirts, they do not squat and he gives up; I've not seen him mate a single one of them lately, except Gracie. Not one! Soon, their eggs may not be fertile since it's been around two weeks since they were living with him 24/7. Maybe he's had enough of being picked at, poor guy! He's a bit more protective of his wattles now, too, LOL. There is still a scab on one of them. When that is gone and healed, I'll put the mean women back in with the laying flock and see if they leave him alone. I think if they freerange often, they'll be too tuckered out to pick at their man. I hope, I hope... I have folks coming to pick up the eggs on Jan 9, unless things don't change with Ike and the Delaware harpies. Heck, they'd rather hang around my DH than Isaac lately! Georgie is constantly asking to be picked up--she pecks at DH's pants and stands on his shoes, LOL.

I'm thinking of getting Delaware Bantams from welp

Do you think I should do it? If I don't, I can get Buckeye bantams from Sandhill, and join the Buckeye nuts...

Which Should I do!!

Well....we would vote Dels. Have you contacted Dzipperer here on BYC? Dani is/was raising Bantam Dels. Might be a better source than getting hatchery birds!!

I have never heard of him, I'll find him

Will the bantam Dels be okay with predators? I mean,... They are mostly white

First, Dani is a "she", just to keep you out of trouble!

Secondly, as long as you provide them a safe place they should be fine as far as predators go. My Dels seem to be a lot more "woods savvy" than my other birds. Do you have other bantams and do they do ok with predator issues?

Kathy- YAY!!! A Noelle!
Scott- are you going to look for a roo for those girls? Don't mind me, I am constantly looking for a home for my INXS roos! Most of my "for sure" pullets are very white- teeny bit of hackle color and a bit in the tail, but white, white, white. I am waiting to see if more shows up in the spring. They also have basically invisible combs- I have several "for sure" roos with large combs and then three or four chicks with combs in between. . . .still guessing on those, but they have lots of smut at this point.
Blackbird 12 - everyone here is going to vote for Dellies-so get yourself some and jump in here with the rest of us crazies!
Cynthia- that is strange- I wonder why they won't squat? Revenge on Ike for leaving them?

I am saying it again- MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!

Beth....I have Pepper (Issac's half brother) that I got from Cyn when she was originally "culling", along with Lil Bit (a below average sized pullet). He is a big guy, not quite like Ike, and has 1 too many comb points. BUT, my boys (human boys) would NEVER allow me to replace Pepper with another Del roo so the one's I hatched needed a home somewhere. Gonna keep the pullets to put with Pepper, Lil Bit and Sasha in probably 6-8 more weeks.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Oops, thanx

Had a funny thing happen earlier today. The main flock was out freeranging , with Isaac, and the Del ladies. We are all hanging around across the backside of the garden from the coops and we hear the most god-awful screeching coming from the coop area. My DH takes off running across the yard, with Isaac running right beside him, ready to do battle with whatever was making his girl yell. Would have loved to have the video of them running alongside each other, LOL. It was just Kira in the Firetower, being overly dramatic about not laying an egg.

She sounded like someone was killing her!
