I actually started my flock with 8 Delawares almost 3 years ago, now I've got only 4 of the original brood left. I'd love to be able to help carry on the lineage of a heritage breed- and the birds that I've seen here on the thread look absolutely amazing! I'm really excited! Make sure we keep in touch until March. (Late February? I haven't finalized my shipment dates from the hatchery I'm ordering from too.)

Shelley,
If Speckledhen is still into Dels this spring, I know there are several of us on this thread that will heartily recommend getting eggs from her! And it sounds like some of us may be willing to ship out also - BTW- what is that gorgeous hunka hunka on your avatar?

Crazylady- Sweetheart may stay shyer now- I have found that injured animals are more wary, or sometimes if the injury has been to the head, just different. I had a beautiful half Arab mare that got two hind feet in the face and she was never the same horse- got nervous, seemed to lose part of her sweet nature - BUT, on the other hand, Sweet Heart just may need some more time and total recovery of her wound to be herself again. And I think if Delgirl counts up, the flag will have SDWD on it (Society for Delaware World Domination)

Kathy- do you have the most Del babies now or does Rwoman? I can't keep up with you 'bator people!

Urbanfarmboi- go for it! This is a breed worth reviving-

Gotta go check my porch and make sure Cetawin is not out there, lurking, waiting to lure Ultrasuede and Buckshot away with her incredible grain treats!

This thread is running away with out me! Where to start...

Oh my Gosh!!!!!!!!!!! Gracie laid her first egg!!!! Cyn, when I went out to the coop today, there was my girl in the box and she laid an egg too. I thought of you and Gracie while I was watching her fuss over her nest. Gracie is a beauty and you are right, she has a beautiful face. Your babies are in the grow out pen in the big coop, basking under the light and eyeballing the big girls. The older girls want the babies food and like to hang around there and see if they drop any out. It is cute (but always scares me) when I see one of them laying like they are dead in the shavings positioned weird and stretched out) Just taking their baths though.

Laney, I am sorry sweetheart but you know, if even one of the eggs hatch you are going to be over the moon in love with it.

Kathy, you have the best questions! Thanks for thinking and asking all the stuff I just don't think of. Don't cull them for awhile, they change so much! I know we have too many and the "obvious" culls have to go, but I am going to hold off as long as possible so that I pick the right ones that have to go.

Beth, the pics of Buckshot look whoo-hoo great and I am soo glad that Superchick is doing good. As for who has more Dellies, Kathy or me... we are both out of control so we aren't telling! But I think Kathy has more of Cynthia's babies. I have alot of culling to do. BTW I see no posts from Cetawin so ya better lock the boy up!!!! I'd be a little worried by now if I were you...

Shelley and all the other new ones to the thread, WELCOME! Nice Dels too Shelley. Aren't they just the greatest birds.

Got a question.... Do pullet eggs hatch out the same quality chicks that regular size eggs do? I heard that the chicks were smaller but caught up in size. Any input on this?

Now come on...you cannot tell me that Cyn does have an awesome flock...besides I told her I would take Suede and his weird women, Isaac and his mean ole women except Kira. LOL I do not want her to teach Fattie anything. LOL

Now I am hoping that the Dellies and Athena wait a couple months to start laying now. sheesh I do not want them in their current quarters and laying. But, once we get this move over it will be good and then they may lay at will. hahahaha

hehehe

I gotta show you this...was looking at them for another thread...too cute

Cannonball after she shot out of the egg and into the side of the bator (scared me nearly to death)

That little Dellie was right there when Thor hatched and was his bator buddy ... it is funny how they are so close now too.
