Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I want a rooster that looks like that.

Hi everyone- I was so excited to find this topic. This breed is exactly what I am wanting to get. Iam wanting to start with delawares. So, I HAVE BEEN READING THIS FOR THE LAST 2 DAYS TRYING TO GET THROUGH THE WHOLE 190+ PAGES. So, I have a question, forgive me if I missed it already, but I was wondering if anyone has some of Bill Bradens line of Dels? I would love to see some pictures of the stock that came from his line.
Second question is anyone a member in the Delaware club? I tried to contact the club contact person and they never responded back. I was just wondering is it a very active club? Thanks so much, everyones birds are great!

Hi Tracey! So happy you have found us! We really are Delaware junkies! I do not belong to the Delaware Club, so I can't help you out there. Maybe I will go check it out, though!

I don't know about Bill Bradens stock, either. I am really not much help, am I? Hmmm. Cyn can tell you about anything you ask though! She's our leader, and all knowing!

I just found (on page 39 of the colored SOP book) the points system for the SOP. "The General Scale of Points." Anybody interested? There are 2 sets of points. One is for white and one is for other than white. I wonder if Delawares are white, or other than white, since they do have some color. The ones with * are points for, "other than white." The other points are the same, white or not. Yup, I do believe Dels are other than white. ..... OK, here are the 100 points broken down:

SYMMETRY: 4 (shape)
WEIGHT OR SIZE: 4 (shape)
CONDITION AND VIGOR: 10 (shape)
COMB: 5 (shape)
BEAK: 3 (2 for shape, 1 for color)
SKULL & FACE: 4 (3 for shape, 1 for color)
EYES: 4 (2 for shape, 2 for color)
WATTLES: 2 (shape)
EARLOBES: 4 (2 for shape, 2 for color)
*NECK: 6 (1 for shape, 5 for color)
*BACK: 12 (6 for shape, 6 for color)
*TAIL: 8 (4 for shape, 4 for color)
*WINGS: 8 (3 for shape, 5 for color)
*BREAST: 10 (5 for shape, 5 for color)
*BODY & FLUFF: 8 (5 for shape, 3 for color)
LEGS & TOES: 8 (5 for shape, 3 for color)

I guess I'm not gonna worry about that beak color ... it's only 1 point!
I'm gonna check out the back, since it's 12 points!

BACK: moderately long, nearly horizontal, broad it's entire length, forming a gradual concave sweep from saddle to tail.
BREAST: Deep, full, broad and well rounded.
Here's where I am confused ... the neck color! I don't know how much color they want in a Delaware there. The artist's (stupid) rendition looks way to dark to me.

ETA: Big George is to die for! <<<drool>>>

Taceyperkins,
Welcome! Dels are awesome and Speckledhen can tell you the most about bloodlines, I think.

I THINK I belong to the Delaware club, however, I never hear from them, the website is pretty empty, and I am not sure what it going on - I have learned more on BYC from the lovely people on this thread than anywhere else!

Hi Tacey, wow you read all the pages? You are a dedicated Del person! I don't have any of Bill Bradens Dels but have some of his Light Sussex.

I would like to find his website so I can see pics of the Big Kids, Dels and Sussex.

Joletabey is right. Speckled Hen is the person who is teaching all of us. And we are grateful for you Cyn!

After seeing George, I am even more excited to see the babies grow up. George and Isaac have a "quality" that stands alone. They are not your average Roo. Or even above average Roo. Royalty is how I think of them. Yep royalty. Look at the way George carries his body and Isaac does too.

So to all of us who have princes and princesses yay!!!!!

Bwahahahahahahaha! You made me spew coffee, LOL!

Tacey, wow, that's cool that you managed to get through all that! I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that Janet's lines at one time, and perhaps even with the flock mine and shelleyb's came out of, had some Braden in there. There is also Meier, McDaniel and a bit of Sandhill added for diversity, which is the one hatchery I'm told still has decent Delawares, being family owned and smaller and geared toward preservation rather than just production in most of its breeds.

Isaac, even with his couple of minor flaws, does have a regal bearing. As I always say, that boy can really strike a pose! He truly is everything you could hope for in a rooster, temperament-wise, conformation-wise, as well as being fully capable and ready to defend his girls against anything. He even loves a chest scratch on occasion. He shows real intelligence. We are very fond of him around here.

I agree with Rustyswoman about King George and his heir Isaac- majestic is my favorite word for them!

I have a question on hackle feathers- I have two roos with a big brown spot on the top of their beaks, too many points in their combs and hackle feathers that appear laced rather than the barred Delaware look- the combs are not that bad, but is there any chance the hackle feathers will molt out differently? Or is it a once laced, always laced proposition. I can't remember if that question got answered yet or not- I am still groggy this morning! The other roos have that barred/ almost spangled look and two of those have better combs. I know I shouldn't cull too early, but if those would be positively last choice birds, I wouldn't mind finding them a new home NOW. Since I have 6 or 7 roos to choose from!
