Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

ok you all got me thinking, yep run and hide and that is where the smoke was coming from...

anyways, most every one on here has related Delawares, and I know inbreeding is not to be worry over in birds as much as dog ect. so what I was thinking was I sould find some other blood, as much as I love Ike and his family

, and I bet if I hold out a while I could get a few of his too. but so far I have found two breeders, here is a look at some of the birds from one of them www.dolcefarm.com/12401.html I don't even know if the other will have egg. they seem a little light in color to me, but one of my boys is darker so.... who knows I went ahead and sent her an e-mail asking for more about here birds.

As for the floppy combs, mine did that, but got straiter as they grew, but they where a fair bit younger...

right now they are enjoying the sun, and these 40*+ days we are having

Kathy- I know, I know, little buggers are SO fun and sweet, but it truly is a matter of space for me now- if this snow doesn't melt enough to get the run done in the next few weeks, it's either let a few go, or give them the run of the house. I like that idea, but the DH is noticeably reluctant.

They will be 9 weeks old Thursday, and they are going to be too big for the brooder fairly soon. The huge amount of snow has limited our ability to work outside, and the coop is really only big enough for 8 or 9 full grown chickens. This crowd gets along OK now, but they will need their space.

Crazy Lady - the first hen has a way too high tail carriage - I think tail carriage is supposed to be at 40 degrees......but the roo seems nice - and knowing where possible outcrosses are would be a good thing- good luck looking!

I'd say they look pretty good. I do think the tail carriage on the hen is a bit high and she doesn't have much tail black, but the rooster and cockerel look good. Roo seems to have one extra comb point, which seems very common.

Isn't it amazing...this Dellie mind-control? I mean they sweetly force you to humor and amuse them...acting as a little birdie carnival ride.

the lady just e-mailed me back, and get this her hens came from.... McMurray of all places, and the roos Ideal

now I have never liked any thing I saw from McMurray, but any way you put it there is work to be done in the breed. she said she culled a lot of roos, made good eats. I also found some other BYCers with Dels, but I'll have to look into that more too. it will be a few months befor I'm ready to hatchs eggs anyways. I'm also going to try to show some of my birds, so maybe I'll find some at a show

Went out to get Ike and trim his beak some (noticed it was overgrown yesterday) and found him covered in blood, yet again. They were picking on the one point that they pretty much removed before. So, we had to cauterize him and now, he's back in the broody pen for the night.

I am about ready to eliminate several hens, including my smallest breeder quality RIR girl, who is just about as bad as the rest of them about picking at the boy. Eventually, may have to let even Ike go to another home if I cant put a stop to this.

Oh no ... poor Ike! Those crazy girls just haven't learned their lesson yet, have they? Only one thing to do ... resort to drastic measures ... Gonna have to talk to Cheyenne ... our Chicken Behaviorial Specialist!
