Tim is correct, that there's more than one reason to breed Delawares. Actually, my Isaac ain't too shabby according to the standard, plus he's a big meaty guy, to boot!

IMO, any endangered breed ought to be bred toward the standard so you don't just propagate them rather than breed to put great breed examples in the gene pool. If all folks wanted was to propagate meat birds, you can do that with any chunky crossbreed.

Yes I plan to eat mine too and that's why I have too many of them because I don't want to have to say goodbye.

I love my babies. The only good thing is they all look alot alike and I won't know who is who for the most part.

We've only eaten one and that was mean Jake. Figured if anyone else took him off our hands, he'd end up in a pot anyway, so it should be my pot. Best chicken stew I'd ever eaten!
