Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hang tight Cyn...I got another one in the freezer to bring you (and tell Tom there is PLENTY of cubed steak, although I know that's not your personal favorite). Waiting on my FIL to pick up the hawg Colby shot the last weekend of the season so I can bring you a little "pork" too. She was 250lbs+ so there outta be plenty to share. Jennifer likes it better than the venison. I had some sausage the processor made from one we shot earlier in the season and it was wonderful. A little too mild on the spice side for me, BUT, extremely lean. We have been mixing it with the ground venison when we make meatloaf, chili, spaghetti, etc

Ladyhawk - I have lost 5 lbs!!! I got on the scales this AM and was at 160.2...only 5 more to go!!! Then I gotta regain my college "abs of steel" (yeah, right, like thats gonna happen at 45)....I am happy to be shedding some pound though and it appears that most of it has been in my middle as my jeans are definitely getting looser. Multiple small meals and lots of water seems to be working, plus running 3 days/week. I am going to the DR next week to see about this tendinitis so I can start playing tennis again!! Bettin' I get a cortisone shot (ooooouuucchhh!!)

Pepper, L'il Bit and all my little Del girls are "free ranging" this AM...not sure for how long as it has started to drizzle here already. Kinda doubt its gonna make it to 55deg like they said.

Hope everyone has a GREAT Friday

Scott, how do I get to be your best friend?

Congrats on the weight loss!!!

Right now it is just grey here, so am going to run out and let babies out NOW!!!

Well, it went really well, except no one used the little chicken runway thingie- they didn't like it, and after the first brave 5 jumped out, the rest milled around till I lifted them down - except for Ultrasuede, who in true Drama Queen form, decided to pace and squawk tales of abandonment inside by himself. I went in the house and made them scrambled egg, since they didn't seem to know what to do with the great outdoors, and he finally came out. After I threw the egg on the ground and they snarfed that down, they got into the scratching thing. I cleaned the coop- they stayed fairly close to me, getting underfoot and pulling at me, and I was able to lift them all back in. I was smart and started with Ultrasuede. . .

How do you teach them to use the runway and go in and out by themselves? Could the ramp be too steep?

And it WAS fun to see them stretch and run and jump at each other. I am also happy to report that I am right about the uniform leg color- all the roos have bright golden yellow legs- so bright you almost think there is a little teeny bit of orange mixed in. The pullets are all uniformly one shade lighter, but still what you would call bright yellow in my book. I can see more barred hackle feathers coming in on some of the pullets, and that is good too. Would have posted pics, but DH took off to run several errands before the snow sets in, and I forgot he had the camera in the back seat.

First off Ms Kathy...you are not a fat pig so stop that. I have seen your pics.

Rustyswoman - I am using a weight gainer whey protein

I am eating fat my meals are roughly 50% protein 20% carbs and 30% fat. I eat Peanut Butter and stuff too not to mention the butter on things and oil in cooking.

They certainly have expressions...poor Thor and his little confused hero syndrome but he never made a move towards her he just watched and fussed. When Thor got all excited to see me and started to dance for me...the look on his face was priceless when he caught himself. It was like embarrassment like "OMG what am doing"

Scott...congrats on the loss of pounds...just keep it up and get where you want to be and where you feel good. That is all that matters really. As for those Abs...I don't want to hear that because I do not believe it...if you doubt me, do a google search for "BuffMother" or "Michelle Berger". If she can have a killer 6 pack after 4 kids (including a pair of twins by C-Section) back to back....it can be done. Search out Allison Hunter...she is older than you or I and has nice abs too.

I am sooooooooooooo happy right now I cannot see straight. I have always bragged about the wonderful service I received from Meyer Hatchery and the great care they gave to the babies when shipped...well I am singing their praises again. I have also praised Holderread Waterfowl Preservation for the wonderful work they do, the great babies they ship and how fabulous David and his wife are...well they are even more wonderful.

So...why am I excited.... Both Meyer Hatchery and Holderreads are sending me the NPIP paperwork on my ducks and the chickens I purchased in 2008! So, that means I am down to just vet's health certificate for my babies to move them. So, one vet house call and I am set! So pardon me when I say this....

California (and any other state with an attitude) can kiss my little brown backside

Beth...if you would like a deer and/or a hawg next season you just let me know. My boys always need ANOTHER excuse to "pull teh trigger". We'll just have to find a way to "meet up" to get it to you.

As for "best friend" status....takes a lot of "babysitting the 45 yr old".... my newbie chicken questions, helping me thru bumblefoot surgeries, guiding me thru "unknown illnesses", keeping me calm thru hatching the first few times....just generally being there all the time, any time. I'm sure several of you here have received the same loving care from Cyn that I have gotten. Just so happens I can get to her place a little easier than most of you and have an opportunity to do so on several occasions (even with my wife and my boys)

I think Cyn missed her calling....she would have made a WONDERFUL, NUTURING educator I think. Always willing and able to share her knowledge. I wish my children could be exposed to someone with her gifts!!!

I agree 100%!

Scott, put down that bottle of wine right now! You are obviously a bit tipsy, talking like that!

J/K, obviously! It's been a pleasure being your friend. I'm the lucky one here and don't you folks let him tell you otherwise!

Ladyhawk, I got your message, so you can call me later if you want. That is great news!!!!!! SO happy you're getting the NPIP paperwork.

We are being snowed in now. Started when we went to WalMart to replace our 12 year old TV that was killed during a brown-out last night. Can't afford it and would have put the bedroom TV in the LR, but that one is about 25 years old and already threatening to go out. Got a UPS as well because I'm not taking any chances with our power company and this new TV. The other UPS is on the incubator right now. By the time we got back, there was almost an inch on the ground and it wasn't even snowing when we left an hour before. And it's coming down HARD.
