Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

In my opinion, and I am still learning, the wing carriage looks a little low----but not too bad. It should be a 45* angle on the wings. And all of the other items that Laney mentioned, I agree with. I would think the seller would try to take better pics to show off his pride and joy rooster, or at least take multiple pics from different angles. A picture is worth a thousand words, regardless of those words being positive or negative. Just my 2 cents.

ETA: I think the SOP refers to a 90* angle on the tail as a "squirel tail" and the roo in that pic is holding his tail pretty high

I can't add anything to the above critiques, but I agree with them- I would wait for Ike eggs!!!

Biden, you are a hero!!!! Give him some treats!!!! Good roo! And, Laney, you have a great DH- he'll keep you out of trouble for sure. He sounds like he might be related to mine! I hate waiting for what I want, too, but I think it's a better way to live in the end. Way less stress. I hope the 'bator of your choice is on sale when you are ready to purchase!

Kathy, sounds like you had quite the day - if you get bored cleaning water up, you can come over and help me shovel a space for the Dels to play - Cynthia, you want to come, too?

First of all, that's a terrible picture to judge from, but the wing carriage should be horizontal and there are too many points on the comb, though that is a common fault (looks like 7 points to me). Tail is too high, should be about 40*. I can't tell anything from the picture except his color does seem odd/off. I can tell you that he is not worth the price they are asking for eggs, at least in my opinion. I'm going to save the pic and lighten it up so I can see better. BRB.

Ok, his hackles are really faded looking near the top of his head, then they bleed down onto the wing tops. The wings should be white with only barring in the flight feathers and his are really smutty. He looks chunky from that angle, but nah, I don't like that one at all.

Yay Cyn to the rescue. That is why I had to preface all my color comments with "he may just be filthy". I can't imagine trying to sell your birds with a picture of them when they are filthy though. Especially white birds. It just smacks of not caring, about the birds, or the people you are selling them to. "here is my commodity, take it or leave it".

I'll post pictures of my birds with mud or dirt on them all the time, for a laugh, just because they are out playing and we are sharing our birds as they are...but to try and show them off to sell, no way.

Laney

All of my thoughts have been confirmed, I think I'll be able to rest a little easier knowing that I won't be throwing away money on those eggs.

Thanks everyone for the expert advice. Aren't we all a bunch of chicken snobs?

Hello Dellie fans....

Beth of course you shovel for a delaware...need you ask? Give them what they want and you shall remain healthy, happy and live to a ripe old age. Fail to do so could mean your demise. Just do it!

Good morning all -

Cetawin, the shovel is right outside the door waiting for me- church is at 2:00 today due to the snow, so I have the morning to clean stalls and dig out a playground for the darlings. THANK HEAVENS you are all here so there is someone who won't laugh at me for doing this!

SUNSHINE!!!!!!!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Morning, everyone! Hey, Jeremy, I sent the pic of that rooster to seriousbill and here is what she said about him:

"....about the only thing he has going for him is a fairly deep body. But, bad, bad comb, poor wing carriage, and poor color"

So, I'd definitely skip those eggs. Even when you start with spectacular birds, you still have lots of culling to do, so if you start with one like that, it will be a long time before you even got a chick worth keeping, IMO.

Good morning everyone. All the Dels are doing fine here and were enjoying the nice weather. Then we got snow last night. So it should be coming your way... sorry there is more!

It gets overwhelming looking at all my Del babies. I just can't decide who has to go. And I have alot of babies so some of them do. I am keeping all of yours Cynthia but have to reduce numbers with the others.

They are just precious they way they are wandering all over with the big girls. I find them all over the property. A few days ago I was ready for bed and went to turn off the outside light. I hear this odd sound so decide to stick my head out the door. Here are three Dels huddled up against the house trying to stay warm and safe. So far from home for them. How they got over there...?

So it was a night trip to the coop. Flashlight, jammys, and Dels in hand I tucked them in and scolded them. They were sooo happy to be back in the coop.

We made it through January (almost) so now it is only 48 days left til Spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
