Who is William Meier? Where is he from? Does he still raise and show?

I'm new here but I have heard the names William Meier and SeriousBill many times. Both men seem to have much to do with keeping bloodlines pure and listening to the conversations on this thread they have also build a great deal of passion for the breed. Does anyone wish to let the new folk know some of the history,

Serious Bill is a nice woman named Janet. She has done her best to keep Delawares pure and of the best quality. She has more lovers of her birds than she has eggs to sell. She is the origin of Cynthia's (Speckledhen) Dels. She is a collage prof. and has a wealth of knowledge on the Del breed.
I don't know about William Meier, just that he has nice Dels.

I know I should know this but want some input. My two hatchery Dels have black under their wings. The top feathers are white but underneath is black. One of them I can now see some black peeking out because his saddle feathers are not drapping properly down. Is there supposed to be black under the white?

Mr. Meier no longer breeds Delawares, I'm told, but he produced show winners for years. Jesse McDaniel is also a name that is in the mix of lines in these Delawares. Seriousbill (Janet) has integrated those lines as well as a couple others to produce a very high quality flock of which I am honored to be the recipient, not only of her birds but her experience of the breed. She has been a good friend and mentor to me for a couple years now.

Germaine, the primary feathers are supposed to have some black/barring in them. When folded, most of the black is underneath, which is what is supposed to happen. Let me see if I can find a picture of Isaac with wings extended or where you can see what I mean.

Can you all help me clarify something? The hackle feathers that we are objecting to, and referring to as "columbian" are like a striped/pencilled feather instead of a barred feather? It has along black

center bordered with white? Like this? I hope I have the right picture. . .

You can see the black peeking out from under Isaac's wing in the pic. That's the way it's supposed to be, Germaine. Beth, yes, the solid center on those hackles is what you'd rather not have. Yours is a bit like the one Kathy posted of her boy who is heavy in the hackles, but not as extensive, at least in that photo. The hackles should be all barred like Ike's below.

Here he is as a youngster and this shows his hackles. This is what you want.

Anyway havn't been here in a while I was just over at the other thread on Dellies genetics for dummies and left some input over there and I'm nowhere near a geneticist and just gave my little bit of opinion over there.

Now back to my bunch of Dels, I'm really starting to like these guys a lot. They're agrowin' on me and I'm just about convinced on the male I'm gonna keep as he's using the 'Ol Delie mind control on me everytime I go near him, already got a name picked and everything (Alabaster/Alley for short) and my girls are starting to look more and more like little hens everyday they are still real light right now so I'm still going on like everyone says they'll change and change a bunch in the next few months. Still have to say these Dellies are some of the most gentle breeds I've ever had and I didn't even get to imprint them when they were first hatched as I didn't get them till they were a couple of months old already and they acted and still act as if I'd been around them from day one. I have one male not as docile as the other but thats from me prolly playing favoritism and giving more attention to the other I'm sure. I'll try to get some updated pics as soon as I can to show their progression boy these guy's are really putting it on right now. Everyday I can tell they're growing like weeds and that's usually hard to see when you spend as much time with them as I do.

I agree with Speckledhen about the WR and WL I like the white ones with a little something, something to break up the solid white as I've seen enough solid white birds for the whole world to get full of since I worked on the family owned broiler farm for about the first 17yrs of my life. I helped raise quite a few million during that span of my life.

Morning all!! On #2 cup of coffee and thought I'd shoot a quick update.

So far this AM I have 12 new babies. I have one remaining L'il Bit egg pipped but not yet hatched and 4 more BBS rock eggs, all pipped (one zipping) not yet hatched. Looks like this hatch is gonna be almost exactly 1 day late. I have bumped the temps up in the bator by 1/2 degree for the remaining 2 hatches I have going in there.

OFF TOPIC HERE....but these blue babies are SOOOO CUTE. Yellow down under their necks and slate blue fluff everywhere else. Some look like they have mascara (sp) around their eyes. Of course my little del babies are cute too....all yellow and fluffy

With permission of course, I'll post a group shot later today/tonite before they go to the brooder pen. I have a gentleman coming from Ft Payne, ALA to buy all the del chicks from me next week (these plus what hatches next Sun/Mon)

Have a great Tuesday! I'm off to pick up dry cleaning and get packed for my marathon trip. Looks like I'm headed to 60 degree temps......yeeeee haaawwwww
