I agree! Janet is the best person to explain some of this stuff. Maybe it comes from being a professor. Thanks, Janet, if you're reading this! Jo Ann, I agree that temperament is paramount. Isaac has been a joy and I'm very pleased with him in every way. I would never sacrifice temperament for even an absolutely perfect specimen, especially since it is a heritable trait.

...and the bad thing is, NO MATTER HOW GOOD A ROO Pepper might throw in the future, there is no way he could ever be "culled" here. He definitely isn't to std, but my boys absolutely love him (and Jennifer has a soft spot for him too) He literally follows us around like a dog when he is out free ranging and all you have to do is call his name and he comes running.

He has such a great personality that he has a home here NO MATTER WHAT. I'll never be "showing" birds anyway, so why not have ones you can truly enjoy, right??!! Maybe he'll throw some good "rooster babies" for someone....

Janet says that is the Meier temperament shining through (and for those who dont know, it's William Meier, not Meyer hatchery; at least I think it's William if I recall correctly). Whatever it is, Ike is my buddy and just a great example of a rooster who can defend his ladies yet understand that the people in his life are the givers of food, water and comfort and know that they deserve respect.
