Laney, I love that pic of SawsAll - we need to use it every time we get way too far off topic. Or just every once in a while for a good chuckle-

CrazyLady- I think your hens are both beautiful- the hackles aren't Columbian on the Sweetheart, just heavy- my Lizzie is like that. At first I thought she had the Columbian patterning, but when she started sitting on my lap, I realized they were barred. Not very neatly, and some still have a white outline, but it's not definite Columbian like two of the roos I have. I don't know what that would do in a breeding program, unless it mattered farther down the line- if you bred her and got a good roo and bred HIM to hens with very little hackle color- would there be a chance of improvement? I don't know enough about this to do more than guess. . . . .

Tankers is handsome- I would keep both of them, too!

OK, I can see Kathy's new quilt avatar and Laney's new avatar and Jeremy'sand Crazy Lady's, but I can't see Cetawin's.
I cleaned my computer last week. Any other ideas?

Dellie note- they are SO playful- running and chasing and flapping. It's sunny, the wind is a bit nippy, but they are out there having a great time. Luciano quickly changed into Luke- I even perturb myself with my flights of fancy, and DH couldn't deal with Luciano at all- is Luke masculine enough? It's one of my favorite names. He wouldn't come out of the coop today until I brought treats, and he avoids me like the plague now, so I guess I won the Alpha roo war? Ultrasuede is getting better and better about being stroked and/or picked up. I have one hen (Marianne, I think) that has figured the ramp out and scoots out first thing. The rest either jump out the other end, where the door is bigger, or whine till I lift them out. I think I need to build a longer, less steep, less narrow ramp. The boys in particular don't like the looks of the one we have.

How far away from the hens will I need to keep a bachelor roo pen?

Cetawin - I saw it at work on that computer - it's beautiful!!! But I can't see it on the computer at home, and I think you changed yours before Kathy and Laney- I am very confused!

How are Cannonball and Fattie today? Any more squatting?

Ladies, I've about made the decision to sell Phoebe, Kira and Gracie. I'm going to try to keep Georgie, Ellie and Maxie and after Jeremy's eggs are collected, put them in the main flock and give Ike new girls for awhile. I watched Gracie grab his wattle awhile ago the minute I let him go into their pen, and it stretched and stretched as he tried to get loose, poor thing. I know most of you probably dont want the little maneaters, but someone may want them for a laying flock and they'd do well there, I believe. Kira, Phoebe and Gracie are laying well, though Kira isn't entirely over her molt yet. If any of you do want them, let me know, though. I want them to go to a good home, even if they have given me and Isaac fits. They'd have to be picked up here because I just can't put live birds in the hands of the P.O. (Sorry, asher! My own mail guy is great here). So, soon, I'm officially out of the Delaware breeding business. Sigh. I'll make an official auction thread after I'm sure none of you want the girls.

Oh So tempting knowing I'll be in Asheville this week!!!! Let me think about it. How do you think they would do with a true free range life style? Do you think it would stop this behavior?

Laney

I do think that they need to free-range on a daily basis, but I can't guarantee what will happen, Laney. The change of roosters and environment may fix it and it may not. Gracie is a little pitbull. Kira used to be, but Gracie has taken over the crown from her. Neither Kira nor Phoebe have good combs or hackle color, though. But Gracie is Kira's daughter and has a near perfect one, so you just never know how they would combine with Biden. The thing is that I can't let them go until after I collect Jeremy's eggs-I'll be done by next Saturday with that.

Sorry about that Cyn...I know you love your Dellie girls. Poor Ike.

Okay...I am worried sick over Cannonball...do not ask me how she did it because I have checked and re-checked every square inch of her coop and can find no way or place where she could have injured herself....I saw it when she was in my arms going out to the garden...

There is a piece of her top upper beak peeled up and a bump under it along with a crack which extends neary to the center top of the beak.

what? What do I do? I have put a mixture of bag balm and triple antibiotic ointment on it and left the peeled back piece in place smoothed over the ointment....she is acting fine...Is this going to heal or as I hope not, is it going to die and fall off? I am so afraid she will lose the upper beak and have to be put down....please tell me I am worrying over nothing...and it will just heal disfigured.
