The secret is to take gazillions of pictures... Una was kind of shy that day so I used a telephoto lens (I have a big honkin' DSLR camera) to get close.

Horsefeathers inspired me- not that my photography is anywhere near as good, but I love my hens, and Una is SO pretty - so here are a couple of my 8 girls. Excuse the paper plates and mud- there is still way too much snow, and I only cleared a small space for them, and the only way I could get them off my feet was to give treats. I'll post update on Luke and Buckshot later today-

This is Lizzie- personality-wise probably my favorite- the hackles are too heavy compared to everyone elses hen's, and her tail feathers are a mess, but they are not Columbian markings on close inspection:

Jeremy, I hope you do, too. And I am frantically trying to figure out how to have three spaces, so I can keep two of my Del roos and Ultrasuede- there is only so much money for fencing!

Beth, they look so good. Eleanor is a sweet looking litte thing. Ultrasuede is handsome....I see Suede's good looks continue to be passed on, Athena just might prefer him.

I just came in to grab a bite of lunch, so thought I would check in!

Great pictures! It is always a treat to see photos. In between fencing, netting, and building pop doors, I took quite a few snapshots, as well. I will upload them later.

Beth, the price of fencing .... oh, can I relate! I just put up 100 feet yesterday, and have at least 200 feet to go before I am finished. Those spoiled chickens! I just can't bear to see them in a tiny area, and probably make my runs excessively large. I rationalize that they need it when they can't free range, and in the breeder pens.

It is just a beautiful day here today; 65* and a light breeze. The oldest Delawares are basking in the sunshine. The younger ones are arguing with each other (recall 8 roos) over who the Alpha is! Lots of dust baths today, for sure.

Cetawin, thank you!!! Eleanor is a snuggler, as is Lizzie- they both had lap time today. Ultrasuede is getting friendlier and I just keep my fingers crossed that he will take after his daddy!

Kathy- wow- that is a LOT of fence- I am trying to figure out a way to attach my two horse paddocks together and include a way to let the chickens into part of the horse pasture when I am home. The horses are fine with chickens underfoot and are a good hawk deterrent - plus I want to connect the garden- I may just need to buy a whole lot of gates and make a system that opens and closes to connect the whole place - do you have separate runs that connect?
