I have a new layer today! It is either my little Miss Holly (BR dwarf) or my Delaware that was hatched with all the roosters in Del group 2. The egg is funny shaped, with a "thumbprint," nearly flat side. I had to go read up on that, and found that it happens in less than 1% of new layers. Funny looking egg!
OMG ..... You should see a couple of my Dels! Talk about desperate for a dirt bath .... They bathed in the mud!
Stella was appalled by this behavior, and would have nothing to do with it!
Miss Holly would never lower herself to such filth!
BTW .... Had a visitor today; a lady that is building herself a little coop, and wants about 12 chickens. She carried Miss Holly around, switching off and on with Stella. She begged to buy the 2 girls. Brock (DS) was hovering nearby, nodding his head. He finally spoke up and said, "Those 2 girls aren't going anywhere; would you like to look at some chicks over there?"
Aw, glad to know Holly is so well-loved. Is her comb odd? Almost looks like there are no points on it. One other dwarf chick from years past, another BR, never did develop a real comb or wattles. She's cute!
She is absolutely a spoiled chicken if I have ever seen one. Miss Holly is the lap chick of all lap chicks. She is just the sweetest little thing ever! She thinks she has to be in our arms all the time we are outside. I have never seen anything like it (except for a whiney puppy). Between Holly and Stella begging for attention, it is hard to get any chores done out there!
Her comb is tiny, but it has little points on it. Brock insists that it was her egg we found today, as it is a little different color than the usual Dels.
The others stood back looking at them, and decided they weren't interested. I shooed them out of the mud once, but they returned to it again. How will they ever get clean????
Here's Isaac today, just chillin'. You can see he isn't exactly bright white at the moment- that boy loves his dustbaths! Look at Glenda flying down the ramp in the background, LOL.
Ok, I think I am losing my mind - my sweet, precious Norbit, who would follow me around has now started nipping at my feet around 8:30 at NIGHT when he is out in the yard - could this be because he is getting ready for bed or am I totally psycho???? Just wondering since it only seems to be happening around that time and the coop is not quite ready yet so he does not have a house to go to at night - he depends on us to put him up.......

I have one (of the three) roo who has decided to test me, also. He is not my #1 roo, so I don't plan to even attempt to, "train," him. This has been the last 2 days. He comes right up to me, puffs up his chest, head erect, and won't move. He has bit me twice, which he had not been doing. I went into their coop (it is only 5 ft tall), and he followed me, and started pecking at my feet and leg. He appears to me to be acting like he is gonna flog me or something. He is acting very brave. I may throw him in the bachelor's pad, with the other freezer campers, before the weekend is over.
