Good Lord Cyn...you think you might get a bigger roost for Isaac? Ya know something like a small pine tree maybe. That boy is so big and such a handsome thing. Those wattles just beg for a good rub. Dang now I have a dilemma when I come to get my babies (and whoever else I manage to steal from your flock)... do I spend two hours hours hugging on suede and forcing my affection on him...or do I spend an hour and a half with him and half an hour with Isaac? hmmmmmm decisions decisions

I could just bring both of them home with me and love on them all the time...that would be the best choice I think...so what say you Her Royal Henliness? I assist you with your numbers thing and just take those two boys with me?

Guess I should just rent a suburban to drive down there so I have room for all the birds you need to give/sell me what do you think?

I think I am going to let the birds sleep in the new coop tonight. I just spread a bail of bail of straw in there for them and will add a bail of clover hay later. They have been so good sleeping in their little coop and spending all day outside. I can always just pull the bedding out when the weather lets me get in there and start modifications. They have to go to bed early tonight because I am going out to dinner with friends and a having a marquerita. I am not driving so why not right? hubby is gone all weekend with the kid so I am going to enjoy it. Yes I know I should be unpacking, cleaning something or doing laundry but I don't wanna. hahahaha


What do you all think? cleaning and unpack or mexican and a marquerita with friends?

My first broody set on all her eggs until they hatched without any problem. She was a hatchery buff orp. Now Miss Misty my splsah orp was the one that is giving me problems. She seems to be doing fine with her chicks now. I think one problem was that she could hear the roo call the hens when I gave them their treats. She wanted some too. Off the nest she would come. Later I think she just thought after a few hatched that was it. All in all I was very satisfied with the first hatching and now with Misty mommying. Good Luck with yours. I wish I had the broodies in a different area so that they could not hear or see other chicks. I have them devided in the same building.

Broodies are a throw of the dice I guess. Gloria Jean

I hope these 3 will mother the babies well. If they do, I have some in the incubator that I would like to add to their own. They are all due about the same time, so I am hoping I can sneak a few in with them.

Sometimes, the first-timers don't know exactly what they're doing. She may be better in the future, Gloria Jean. Misty's Aunt Dusty is a great broody right up until the time when she is sick of motherhood and then tries to kill the chicks, literally. She doesn't just push them away, she attacks. First time, they were only three weeks old. Second time, they were five weeks and I had to rescue them both times. I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn't been there, so I doubt I'll allow her to brood chicks again.

I just wanted to show a few pictures of some of the boys from the 22 Delawares I hatched (from Claudia and from Cyn). They are now about 9 weeks old.

This guy is a big one!
