Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hey all,

Just poking my head in. I'm having a time of it. My little dog Brodie was hit by a car and didn't make it. We have 17 acres, the whole front fenced in pasture except for the drive and he ran down the drive chasing prey at night. He was a black dog so I can't blame the driver, not even for the fact that he didn't stop as Brodie was only 20lbs...they probably thought they hit a pothole, or a possum.

We found him not long after but injuries were too great. The following week my father went into the hospital for a systematic virus that they can't identify. He is home now, but in much pain as the virus is acting like shingles.

The chickens are doing great and growing by leaps and bounds. I think that sawsall might be laying, but I'm not sure! I haven't caught her at it yet. I have 2 for sure picks at Biden's replacements that have great color, wing carriage and comb. One is ooh la, la. He has amazing coloring - Might, and I say Might be able to match the Big I here. He only has 4 comb points so he looses out there, but he has really good wing carriage and is such a chubber!!! I really like him. #2 is only number two because his tail color just can't compete. I have a #3, but his comb is bent and his coloring is light. I'm having a much harder time with hens. Quite a few of them are very light, with almost no markings. Several have very off color on the legs, almost green. There are 2 or 3 great ones though, so I've got a good working stock.

I don't know if I told you in the last post, but Shannon passed her black belt test and has gotten her belt in the Ceremony of Lights this past weekend. That frees up a LOT of my time!

I hope to be back to the thread as a regular if not now then soon. I miss you all, hope I haven't missed too much as there are just too many posts to catch up on. Someone shoot me a synopsis PM if it isn't too much trouble?

Laney I am so sorry about Brodie.

I worry about Casca and that scenario so i watch him like crazy at night. I am so glad your dad is home and hopefully they figure it out and he gets back to 100% soon.

You were missed around here.

Missed you, Laney. Glad to see you again! Can hardly wait to see pictures of those boys you described. I have to tell ya, I have quite a few of those light girls, too. I was thinking about penning them (when they are laying) with one of the boys with too much color. What do ya think? Would that work? Otherwise, I guess they would just go into the layers coop.

I am so sorry about your little dog and your Dad. Hope they get him all fixed up and right as rain, soon. Anything remotely like shingles is horrifying - and congrats to your daughter - that is quite an accomplishment. What do you do when she gives you lip? Swat and run like mad?
Yes, we missed you. Do post pics if you can. I want to see Isaac's potential competition! LOL!!!

Scott was missed, too. Hope he checks in on his return.

Kathy, those pics are great- look at the little cutie in the first one, and tell me there isn't some thinking going on in that little head.. . . .

Cetawin, yup, they are like Garfield dropping face first into the lasagna pan- just down for the sun whenever and wherever. Good pics of your kids - I really think Luna is stunning. One of these days I'll get a splash something or other!!!

Cynthia, how are your girls doing lately? I need to go catch up on your Ivy thread, but thought I would ask here.

Ivy is still with me. She even put Shadow in her place today when she didn't want Shadow eating out of her bowl of grits/oatmeal combo. She loses her balance occasionally, but boy, she can still hold her own in this crowd. Her color is so dark and her condition seems about the same other than times when she has trouble catching her breath. Olivia and Ginger are the same.

Hello all.....sorry I have been MIA. This new job has me like a cat chasing its tail!!

The company philosophy is definitely different to that which I have been accustomed to. Oh well....had meetings with the owner today at the corp offices outside of LA and all seems to be ok (at least for now)

Landon is "minding the farm" so to speak while I'm away. He exempted ALL of his final exams (he is a freshman in high school) and did not have to attend school the last three days (Wed-Fri) as he had all A's (I'm very proud of him!). We currently have 3 broodies sitting on eggs that are due next Wednesday. Some of them are from a fellow Del lover (surprise shipment arrived at my house at just the right time) and should hatch to be a wonderful Lavender color.....not mentioning any names to protect the guilty. But they are GREATLY appreciated. All 3 of them are due to hatch next Wednesday.

I also have 34 SQ barred and white rocks that went on lockdown today (Landon handled for me) that are due to hatch Saturday. I will be keeping a couple pullets of each color to improve size/type of my BBS rock bunch.

Gloria Jean, glad you had a decent hatch. Wish they all had hatched....sorry! I recently shipped 2 dozen BBS rock eggs to a BYC'er in Kansas and he hatched 21 of 24. Pretty good I'd say for shipped eggs!

Well, it's good to know that I've been missed....maybe moreso here than even by my DW (

Have a great evening and I'll try to check in before the hatches begin

Scott
