Morning all....resident "Pollack chicken keeper" here.
I am sooooo glad to be back from California (no offense Jeremy) but Southern California is no place for a Georgia boy. They had 2 "minor" earthquakes and a huge wildfire while I was there....no thank you!
Everything here in Dellie world is good. Sugar, my broody del, must be getting really close (chicks are supposed to be due Wednesday) as she is acting even wierder (if thats possible) and doesn't want to come off the nest. Guess she knows its "lockdown time". She is sitting on Lavender eggs. Mammy (named after Jenn's great grandmother), one of my Black rock girls is sitting on a mix of Lavenders and Dels and Cora (other Black rock) is sitting on Lavenders. All 3 are due Wednesday...this should be fun and interesting
Just finished my last hatch in the incubator....hatched 29 of 31 rock eggs. 10 white rocks and 19 barred rocks that will be used to improve my Blue rock bunch.
My Columbian Rocks are doing great. I am keeping 1 pullet out of 3 from the first batch I got as the others are not really that well colored. Will probably be putting her in with Pepper and the Del girls this weekend. I am considering putting the 3 silkies that Jennifer "had to have so she would have mamas to raise babies"....like that was a problem, huh??, in with Pepper and his girls too. Since the Dels are so big, do you folks think that the silkies would be ok? I really hate to tie up a whole coop just for those girls. I really want to get rid of them, but the DW is attached to them....oh well, I can't complain since the rest of the birds out there are from my doin's.
We have another Blue Rock girl that is broody now and I am trying desperately to break her. I might move her into the chick brooder for a while as I DO NOT need any more chicks to raise right now and I want my BIG COOP that Sugar and Cora are in, back!...they are totally monopolizing a 6ft x 8ft x 8ft coop.
I have plenty of space to build another but I'm afraid that might be grounds for divorce...
I need to spend some time and $$ fencing in a area like Cyn has to allow my chickens "free roaming area" without access to everything. We have just finished planting flower beds and putting out pine straw and after "several hundreds of $$s" DW is threatening me if the chooks get into them.
Hope everyone had a great weekend....we have a nice long weekend coming. Colby (my youngest) in playing in a baseball tourney all weekend so I guess we will be in the road most of the time.
Have a great Monday everyone!!
