Well, the garden is doing ok. Probably the worst one I have ever had, ut I haven't been doing it for long. Trying pumpkins for the first time!! And no, I'm not doing summer classes. I'm waiting for the fall so I can have a break. I am keeping three or four of the girls back and the best looking roo from the batch. Although, as long as I'm not selling a single thing, I will have them all. Roosters are hard to sell. I went to a swap this last Saturday and sold nine hens, four young pullets, and my three adult roosters. I cried on the way home for those boys.

Cyn, just show Shadow that picture of Dexter!! She'll choose for you!! Lol.

Cetawin, with Severus, I would have eaten him. Just sayin'. Thats what I would do.

OMG woman what say you? *shakes her by the shoulders* snap out of it Have you lost your marbles?

Zephyr - Gonzo is on TOP of the ladies because they are hogging the dust hole...wenches all of them. You would think they were smart enough to allow their man to groom and clean himself. Mean ole thangs.

Delawaregirl - I agree that was my first thought when I chucked him away from me and Thor. But, I honestly think Cheyenne is creating this...he has been as sweet as pie to me. She babies them so much as chicks and teens...snuggling them constantly and kissing them...then they get up breeding age and when it is time to act like a roo...she gets it. Her last EE boy did the same but she broke him of it...now Severus. Neither Deville or Severus ever attacked or even shown inclination to attack anyone else. So, I am letting her decide UNLESS Severus goes after someone else.

This pic was taken last week when we were having a heat wave and very dry weather. We were setting record temps. This week we've had overnight temps in the low 50's and lots of rain. There are plenty of mud puddles to turn the girls into mud monsters. The ducks love it though. It finally cleared up this afternoon and I was able to take a couple of quick pics of some of the other birds. I cracked up when Mrs. Bob ( Embden Goose) climbed up a board and on top of the old chicken tractor. She found a nice pool of water to take her daily bath in. I've got pics, but they are on the other computer.

Ellen..you have got to post the pics of the Mrs. Bob's bath that has got to be a hoot.

Kathy..just take a couple days off and plan on coming this way for our July swap...bring some of those 100s of babies you just hatched or teenagers or whatever and get away a day or so. You can sleep here, go to swap then rest here and leave next morning...be home before beddie bye time.

Delgirl- I bet you cried- that must have been hard! How many do you have left now? I didn't put in half the garden I had hoped- I spend too much time with the chickens!

Cetawin, where is the swap in July?

Ellen, do please post the pic of Mrs. Bob-

Kathy, are you still getting an egg a day from your Del girls? I am only averaging 6 a day from 8 girls, and am still getting one extremely thin shelled, or even membrane covered egg most days.

Do Delawares quit growing once they start laying? Or do they continue to grow a bit their first year?

Well last I knew she's still broody. Very excited not caring how many she hatches just that she stays til the end and is a good mother.

Delgirl you need to try raised beds. Makes things a whole lot easier. You can just build it as you go. I extend mine every year. I just keep dumping the chickens cleaning in and then cover with some soil. Any sized 2X6 plus will do and my smallest bed is 2x4 in size and holds three tomatoes or 6- 8 broccoli or whatever. I buy the culled lumber from HD or whereever. Non treated of course. Lay newspapers or feed bags between the beds. For my tomatoes I push one of those #3 cans w/o top or bottom over them and it makes watering easy. Works for peppers too or any plant you decide. Will post pics.

Anyhow don't worry about those roos I got plenty or wil have when and if these eggs under the broody hatch. Wasn't going to hatch anymore but you know how that goes. The right combination of events and your in the thick of it again.
