XManyThere are a lot of hatcheries selling so called "delawares" there are only a very few folks/individual breeders that sell the "real ones" (Delawares) though.

Paul Harter's Delawares are awesome! The young cockerels are very very friendly. I do notice that the hens don't liked to be touched. Which is fine with me. There grow very fast. Actually heard one trying to crow already this morning. They crack me up when they first start crowing.Just enjoy your keeper, the temperament might indicate a pullet, time will tell which.
I'd forgotten about McMurray, they drop ship a lot of their varieties so its hard to say what theirs are. Meyers I dont know about either.
Your best bet is to later get some hatching eggs from someone here who has Kathyinmo's flock.
My hens are very docile, the rooster is protective of them, he has the loudest crow of any of my roosters. And the moment he sees a light on in the house he is welcoming the new day.
Good luck on your dual, enjoy !
Surprised that a hatchery the size of McMurrays drop ships. Do many of the larger hatcheries do this? I had always assumed the big ones only mailed out their own stock. (You know what they say about "assume")Just enjoy your keeper, the temperament might indicate a pullet, time will tell which.

I gave up on trying to hatch shipped eggs, too discouraging. Only chicks in the mail now or local purchases. Have always had 85% or better hatch rates on eggs of my own stock or eggs I have driven as far away as an 8 hour roundtrip drive to pick up............Surprised that a hatchery the size of McMurrays drop ships. Our state fair is in a few weeks so I can cruise the poultry aisle and maybe get a local Del breeder's number for next time. My experience with mailed eggs was dismal. Do the rest of you get decent hatch rates through the mail?

I meant a breeder as a source for hatching eggs in the future.
I had 8 out of 14 hatch thru the mail. (Well 7 Dels out of 12, other was one of 2 bonus eggs the breeder threw in of her other heritage birds for fun.) But they came from in-state, only 4 hrs away. Took two days USPS priority mail though.Surprised that a hatchery the size of McMurrays drop ships. Do many of the larger hatcheries do this? I won't buy hatching eggs ever again. Some have good rates. Me nothing. I have great rates with my own.Surprised that a hatchery the size of McMurrays drop ships. Those are by far way better than any of the hatchery type remakes I ever have found/had from the destinguished hatcheries and all the glorification they receive for having such wonderful/marvelous stock, LOL
