Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

The six babies have grown alot in two weeks. I had to cut off the zip ties I had put on for my "tail length experiment" They were getting tight.
I had to laugh at the experiment too. The shorter tails did not make them boys or girls. Just shorter tails! I should have re-banded them to see if they would keep the short tails as adults, but was too busy to worry about that one. Maybe next time.
I think I have 3 of each sex, but next week I hope to know more. They sure do change fast! I will try to get pics soon.

rustyswoman,
would love to see pics. . . .

Nifty-Chicken: Very cute! Your hen looks so sweet and content in yours and your childs arms!

rustyswoman, I had to do that too, only my bands were for guessing who was a roo and who wasnt when they were two weeks old, we only mis-guessed two!! And pictures would be great

O my GOSH! They are just round little chunkers already!!! It looks like you are going to have some real beauties!
I see some differences in the combs- are you telling the girls from the boys yet?

Got the the birds in the winter quarters this weekend. The eldest son and I were just sitting and observing to see if we needed to fix anything to keep them contained, safe and content. One of the Del girls walked over to the nest box, sat down for two minutes, got up leaving her egg without a single squak. Nice quiet working girl. The son was so excited, he had never "watched" a chicken lay an egg before.

Going to need to clip their toe-nails though, our grass pasture hasn't worn them down at all.

Those are some cute babies, wish I didn't have to wait for spring here in the frozen north.

Thanks! Yes they are getting big. They were so cute yesterday. It was actually their first time out of the brooder and on grass. They were just scratching and pecking away!
I can see a difference in their combs and know I have at least two boys and two girls but I am not sure about the other two. I really like the way the one boy is marked. But time will tell.

Congratulations JoAnn on your hen and her egg. I am glad your son got to see it actually happen. Those things make for good memories and future chicken lovers!

I am also wondering about the "yellow heads" I notice in the pics of your chicks Cynthia that yours don't have that yellow head. Is it an indication of a poor Delaware or just a yellow head?
