I'm developing a critical eye! It's happening. A lovely woman on the NC Poultry list offered to sell me her 10month old Delli hen. She is a beautiful hen, don't get me wrong. However, I am starting to look at Del's with a breeders eye. So I asked for a pic and I'm thinking she's really light in the hackles, barely any tail black. However her body shape is very good, and comb is nice but I can't count points in this pic. She's laying eggs right now so I can't really look at the paleness of her legs.
I'm thinking I'll still breed her because even though her hackles are light, they are definitely barred to Bidens slightly more columbian look. His tail is too dark so maybe it will even out with her lack of black? Also she is only 10 months old so she still has a molt to go through, and she is very broad in the chest and nice plump girl. Good shape. And you start with form right?
Emily was the better of my two hens on form. I probably won't breed Helen at this point as she is skinny in my opinion. Her breast is just too narrow and unless she fills out and widens up (she's 23 weeks) I just can't see breeding her.
Laney
Recoverying but still heartbroken.
RIP Emily.
