Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Oh Cetawin, I am jealous over those hutches. Functional and beautiful. Sigh....

Joletabey, that would have sent me into a tizzy having the power go out and it being that cold. I am glad everyone is good.

Kathy, I'm glad Midge is doing better. I love the idea of the Aveeno bath! I bet she is itching because her feathers are coming in and it is irritating her. You are getting the nasty cold weather I have just been through. Really nasty. It was -1 here for days. Up to 21 now so everyone should be happy today.

Cynthia that is good to know about the 4 weekers and the cold. I need to get some of them outside soon because the garage is getting crowded!

Hey everyone!
I have another comb question. . . . as I watch these little beauties develop combs, I can already count where some will have more than 5 points
sad.png
but I have one or two that seem to have only three or four- mostly the ones I suspect of being pullets, BUT there is one that has as well developed a comb as any of the others, and appears to have 4 points. . . . anybody have any experience with this being a possible 5 point perfection child? I know Cyn said something about points sometimes coming out much later. . . . ?

Am I just being in too much of a hurry with all this? I feel sometimes like I am practically panting over them, waiting to see who is a what and which is a where and all that.

I get the same way and I haven't got a clue. Maybe we can find Cynthia...ask Cetawin to have Cannonball call her

They are all purdy much the same size as my EE hen, other then my little girl. she also had more coloring splashed over her body, and now it's cleaned up. But her down is all gray/black, is that comon?
Don't feel too bad about babying your babys, there is still a heat lamp on in my coop

but it's just as much for me as it is them.

Combs-the bigger they get the easyer they are to count {duh Jp} but the girls take longer to grow to the point it's worth it to even try. I just did my girls....I forgot just what they had though, 6 &7 or 7 & 8??? is was something like that. they are around 16 weeks. what drives me nuts is not really knowing how old they are, I got them from the feed store beacous they where on sell {.75} due to the fact it's hard to get rid of older strait run chicks. they had all their feathers with in 3 weeks.
taking notes helps me pass the time as they grow, and I know it will be helpful to my self, and all other Delie lovers.
Tank has 4, but they are really funky spiks....what it comes down to is I'm gona cross them one way, then swap the pairs and see what I get from there.

Hey someone remember me when you start selling eggs, or if you all get too meny you can just send them on to Oklahoma, me and delawaregirl will split them. lol

kathyinmo - I have 8 youngins 2 Dellie babies, 2 Suede babies and 4 little EE crosses of my own. They are 13 weeks old. Right now the 4 EEs are in one and the 2 Dellies and 2 BBS Orps in the other one.

joletabey - Cannonball and Fattie tried to call Cyn but I took the phone away and spoke to her myself. They are little rascals. Cannonball had a list of stuff they wanted from Cyn and Fattie had a list of complaints to have her make me fix...most of those involved more outside time. spoiled spoiled spoiled

Those little coops were an awesome deal that AHappyChick offered...she ordered 20 of them and offered some of them to us BYCers...it was a great deal so I got two of them and they are working out great!

So you still keep a heat light on them at 13 weeks? Some of mine (hatchery) started laying at 16 - 18 weeks. I must be a real meanie .... my other chicks (hatched Sept 21, and Oct1), have been without heat lights since they were 8 weeks old. Actually, they are doing fine ... runnin' around outside like it's 70* here. The temp today is in the 20s, but last night was 9.

My babies that I moved out to the big coop and doing great! They go back and forth, under the light and out to play in the cold (all inside the coop). The remaining hatchery birds are leaving tomorrow, and the Dellies will be joining the Halloween hatch chicks in the coop. They will have the whole coop to themselves. I am off tomorrow, so you know what I will be doing! Cleaning house (coop, that is). I am guessing I need to change out all the bedding for new. Although, it really isn't very dirty. I have a droppings board, and clean off the poo each day, so there really isn't alot in the bedding.

Cetawin,
Well then, if you talked to Cyn, I am sure she will jump on here with comb point info! Do tell Fattie and Cannonball thank you for trying, and NOT to complain about their mother!

Crazy Lady, Kathy, I am going to offer at least a heat lamp at night through March - it can get to 6 or 8 degrees at the worst, and this fall seems so much colder than usual - I am not ashamed to baby mine their first year! I figure next fall will be time enough to get used to colder nights. Besides, I want my little preciouses to appreciate me!
