one of my other brothers fed my babys for me yesterday, and I kept them cooped up. I could not drag my self out there a 3am, so this is what I walked out to today

my delies are real sweet too, and they are hatery stock, so I would say most Delawares are friendly birds.

I'm looking at getting some silkie and EE chicks for myself for christmas

Has anyone had bad experiences besides Cyn's first bunch? Crazy Lady says her hatchery stock is friendly, so I am wondering if Cyn just got the one bad batch in the world. . .

This feather thing is weird- Is that common for one or two feathers to be odd? I wonder if they will stay that way, or disappear in a future molt?

Joletabey, I'm not sure. Heffner just molted his big white tipped feather, and I'm waiting to find out if it will come back or not. Heres a picture of him with the white showing (Oreo, not heffner, though I'm sure i have one of Heffner too) And it looks like it passes on. Humm.

I heard quite a few reports of aggressive Delawares, so some hatchery was breeding an aggressive strain of them. Even as little chicks, my first ones weren't friendly.

My hatchery were not mean, they just were not friendly. As adults they are very sociable. But Cynthia's are very very friendly.
I like the coloring of your Roo Delgirl, I hope he loses the white feather for good.

Thank you rustyswoman! But, even if he loses the white in his tail, his comb is a disaster.

Oh well, he is a sweety.

I forgot to comment on the aggressiveness earlier. My birds, a mix of hatchery and heritage, were distant as teens, and they still are. They like treats and such, but when it comes to being caught, OHHHHH NOOOOO!

Its like this at mite-check and other stuff time

But, were working on it. The only aggressiveness that i've seen really are the alpha birds against the veru low low birds. (And man do I feel sorry for the low lows) Other than that, nothin'.

Oh I wish you could have seen my babies getting their first mealworms a few minutes ago. I started raising them in the hopes of feeding them to the chickens and bearded dragon.

I decided the babies were old enough to try a few. It took about 5 minutes before they even would try to taste one. Then one of the two brave blue silkies I have in with them took one and ran. Then the other blue.

Finally a Del was brave enough and then CHAOS!! ROTFL!! The went bizerk over them. So I had to get more, probably 30 of them and withing 1 minute they were gone and that is beside the crazy running that went on.

I am glad I have thousands and thousands of the worms now!

They are so WILD when they get goodies. It's a complete madhouse in the brooder when I would give them scrambled eggs. And LOUD, too!
