Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

his dam is a beautiful 130 lb great pyr and his sire is a beautiful 100 lb black lab.

Edit to add: he now outweighs me and his hug is him standing up and putting his paws on my shoulders and his snout on my collarbone. He is good with the chicken and ducks but still a bouncing puppy, so he is never unattended with them. In the picture you will see the 10 lb menace in the other chair....that is the vicious sucker. he has cornered a mountain lion. went after a pitbull and great dance near the chicken run....fearless and a stupid thing.

I'll have to remember all this collar stuff myself - and Cetawin, that is one beautiful lapful of love!

I would love updated baby pics from some of us that haven't posted any in a while - I still learn by comparing!

I will get pics of my Dellies tomorrow...Cheyenne has her Christmas concert at school this evening and I am the Band Mom so I have to make sure they all have their stuff together. She is playing a Sax solo tonight "Amazing Grace" She is a first year band student and in concert band everyone else is 2nd and 3rd year band students. I am very proud of her...hopefully pics tomorrow.

Edit: PS ask Cyn about that puppy's voice...he has barked when we were on the phone. LOL He also talks to me when she and I are talking on the phone. Hysterical.

Last week I sold the remaining hatchery stock. As we played the, "catch the chickens," game, our dog, 8 month old Tyson, was getting extrememly agitated. We loaded them into a 2' x 8' cage for transport. Tyson stood over them whining. As we picked up the cage ... he stood up on his back legs and pawed at the cage as he was whining. We think he was trying to pull off the chicken wire to let them out! As the pickup drove away, Tyson started to follow and kept looking at us and looking at the truck, back and forth. He was confused! He loves our chickens, as he was raised with them.

Funny how dogs know all creatures (human or not) can be a part of the same family, isn't it?

Cetawin .... Tell Cheyenne not to be nervous, and good luck! A solo her first year!

WOW!

Hes only thirteen weeks old in that picture!? GAHLEE!!!! He is beautiful. Cyn, I believe you when you say your floor shakes! I use to have a German Police Cross and when he barked.... Well, the windows rattled and the cat yowled and you get the idea. It was almost like having a rooster crowing right in your ear.

Speaking of Crowing. My young Cuckoo Maran cockerel started crowing the other day. It was good! No scratchy sounds, yet. But, his comb is so odd. He has 5 points that kinda sirl backwards, and he has 3 blades... imagine that! Earlier in the summer, I was carrying a Delaware Rooster, Cogburn, upside down to the barn because he was being naughty bad towards the girls, and he crowed. Weirdest noise I've ever heard. Too bad we ate him, he was a prime example, but I just couldnt keep him after his brother died. Hurt too much...

Heres Oreo. I love this picture of him. Submitted it for pic of the week a few minutes ago...

Cetawin, I hope Cheyenne had a great night tonight. I'm sure she did wonderfully!

That dog is a beast. I bookmarked the page. My daughter got a shock collar for our one chicken killer. It hasn't done much good because in order for it to work you have to catch her in the act. It seems that when she is in the act, no one has the controller in their hand. This happens to be my inlaws dog so the controller and collar don't live at my house.

We have a "Family compound" farm. Two houses, one drive and a whole lotta farm. My last dog Mugsy had some serious issues. He was what can be called a redline case? One of those dogs any other family would have put down. He hated men, and almost tried to kill my husband more than once. However, he always obeyed me. Our vet diagnosed him as hyper attached to me.

As a last resort we put him on drugs and that calmed him down right away. However he was a smart dog and back then those collars weren't as great as they are now. The one you see there for $250 was a thousand dollar collar 15 years ago. So we spent about $200 on a shock collar for him, but the little bugger learned to duck his chin. When he ducked his chin the remote couldn't connect with the collar. No shock, no correction. The benefit was, any long slim piece of plastic was connected with a shock for him. So he's misbehaving, pick up the remote from the tv and boom, instant correction.

Ginger, that pic of Oreo is such a good one! He has nice tail barring and hackles, certainly. I may be hatching more Delawares next month sometime, or at least, starting the hatch then. And I'll add two or three more breeds in there, but most all of the chicks will be sold. May keep one or two from each breed, but that remains to be seen. Anyway, should have some Delaware chicks to sell by the end of January, if all goes as planned.

Oreo is a beautiful roo, Ginger.

These are my hatchery Delawares. I wanted to start on a white breed with brown eggs...but not all white like the White Rocks, etc. So I went with Delawares. I also use the pullets/hens for RSL crosses.

3 of the 6 pullets - their back feathers aren't brown/yellow, that's mud stain. The cockerel 'loves' them in spite of the weather/mud.

This is Achilles, the cockerel. Tell me his faults & why, please. Sorry for the pic qualities. He never stands still for 2-3 seconds! LOL....

And what's wrong with this pullet's eyes? I made a closeup of her face to make it easier to see.
She was very late to lay compared to the other pullets. Her comb/face/wattles all stayed pale pink until she finally did start to lay. But her face remains pale and notice her eyes are barely a slit. She seems to be able to see just fine though. She's a bit shy & quiet, but acts normal for the most part. Any ideas?

Weird, Kim. Both eyes are like that? Sorry, no idea what's going on there.

You asked about Achilles....barring on tail too light, hackles too light, too many comb points, body too narrow, legs too light. Those are what I see immediately, but I am no expert. Even with all that, amazing how handsome even the hatchery stock can be, isn't it? The color pattern is just very attractive.

Your first girl in the three pics is very Columbian Rock-looking, which isn't really surprising with some hatchery stock.
