Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I want the Delaware mixes that lay green spotted eggs. It takes a Delaware Hen and a Marans Rooster. The resulting Pullet is supposed to lay a green spotted egg? I have to try that!

I just read this on an old post in the Olive Egger thread (post # 10). Is this true?

The Delaware is a light brown (tan, somewhat pinkish) layer. The Marans is a very dark brown layer. The offspring from a cross would lay a brown egg, a shade in beween the parent's shell colors.

What most of the folks on that thread are doing is a cross of either
- EE or Ameraucanas (green or blue) and a Maran (very dark brown) that results in offspring with olive eggs.
- Barred Rock or Cuckoo Maran (brown layer) with an EE or Ameraucana to get barred offspring with olive eggs.

The olive is the result of brown coating over a bluish shell. Sometimes brown spots will occur when the brown coating is "splotchy".

I scanned through the next couple pages of that thread. I thought surely somemone had given an answer to that person's Delaware/Marans question. But I dodn't see anything. It must have been overlooked.

Yard full o' rocks :

Ok you bunch of VCDLs....I am leaving with the boys (don't tell, I took them out of school....since they both finished the semester with all A's) to go to the hunting club.

NO unnecessary picking while I'm gone as I won't be here to defend myself (maybe I need to call JamesA to look in on y'all for me)

Have a great weekend....be back at ya Monday

What a nice reward for their hard work on their grades.

Kathyinmo-I thought of Jacob also, as appropriate. But the DH's name is Jacob and so is the eldest SS. . . . so it may be Essau for me! The wild and hairy one. . . . . However, I am still betting on Buckshot, so it may be a moot point!

Cattdaddyfro -YAY!!!! Congratulations! Glad your brother made it! How old are they now? Pics, pics, pics! We are snowed in totally, and pics would make my day!!!

There ya go, how'd I do?

Yes, kathyinmo, the roos are marked way more than the girls. Out of the twelve there are 9 roos and 3 pullets. Should be able to pick a good roo out of them, sure looks like some have a lot of tail barring showing already and most have the 5 pointed comb also. They are now 9 weeks old so there is still going to be a lot of changes in their anotomy, so I will keep ya'll posted as they progress.

catdaddy

P.S. kathyinmo I just realized I was spelling your username wrong on the other thread, when my brother said Kathy in Missouri was what your name was abbreviated for I knew that I had it wrong on the past two thanks on my other posts.

Nice job on the pics, Catdaddyfro! Surely they'll be an excellent roo in the group when they fill out.
