but...

my little girl, whom I named Sweet Heart is doing good. She started drinking on her own last nigh, and now she is eating. I think her eye is gone, not matter what she can't see on the right side and eats slow do to a pore aim, but I don't think that will last long. I'm so happy, I think she is going to be ok. I don't know how long she will have to stay inside, and her flock buddy will be hand picked, but she is worth it.

Cheers to all roos that do there job, and do it well. keep it up Thor

Here are the 4 Delaware hens that I have right now, they're all a little over 2 years old. I'm thinking about expanding my flock, adding a rooster and starting a small breeding program in the springtime. Anybody willing to give some expert advice on how my girls look?

You'll have to excuse their semi-poor appearance, these pictures were taking towards the end of their molt and it had been raining. Oh and my lack of ability to capture a head on picture of them. They'll come right up to you if you've got treats, but run like crazy when they see a camera coming!

(The 4 of them, they were scratching after raisins.)

Thanks everyone!

Gee one day and I miss pages and pages of good stuff! I love all the pics.

Welcome Cindyloohoo we are glad to have another Del lover.

Cynthia those are great pics of Isaac. It really showed his body type for me. What a beautiful hunk of Rooster!

Joletabey, what can I say other than...keep it over there. It is beautiful though. Are the chickens loving or hating the snow?

Kathy, I still need to go look at your hatch, I was gone all day. Can't wait to see pics

Cetawin, I just laughed at Thor and your EE. Look at them go at it! And Thor and his stinkeye look at the EE afterward. He was sure watching out for him. How are you going to keep all the chickens out of your raised beds in the summer? My chickens destroy my garden.

If I missed anyone sorry it's still early and on one cup of coffee

Crazylady - I am SO glad about Sweet Heart- tough little girl! I hope she keeps getting better.

Jeremy, your hens look nice and round- I think they are supposed to have bright yellow legs- but maybe their legs are muddy from your weather?

Laney-an egg!

Delgirl, Kathy, Rustyswoman, Cetawin and anyone else who is trying to push warmer weather this way- it SHOULD get close to 40 today, which will help! Keep thinking? The neighbors three chickens have stayed in my horse barn during this and won't venture out yet - my Dellie babes are still warm and snuggy in the Plywood Palace- they were going to move to the coop this week, but we obviously can't get them out there!

Cynthia, did the rain turn to snow? Did you get out?

Hey, NC people who got snow- WHERE ARE THE SNOWPLOWS?????

Snowed Saturday night. Never got over 35 yesterday and is 20 this morning, so it's still frozen and crunchy out there. Ick. The sun is out today, so I expect it will melt by this afternoon.

Yes, Jeremy, the markings on your ladies aren't great, but they look like chunky girls, so that's good. Where did you get them?

I don't quite understand how people expect domestic animals to forage for a majority of their feed in northern tier states in the winter. Even without snow, the cold temps prevent plants from growing, so food value of what they find must be reduced. And no insects. And fruiting plants just have dried raisin-ish things or seeds.

Chicken simply need to be fed in the winter up here.

Joanne -too true- the snow gets deep enough and even the hooved animals can't dig through- it's tough. Popcornpuppy, I hope your DH relents!

I am STILL not plowed out.

They are a hoot for sure. Thor is so big that when he went airborne and hit Draco, Draco got knocked back and down. Then Thor had him. I sat out there with them for about 25 minutes just to make sure the battle was over and no one drew blood. Thor is a force to be reckoned with and he is going to take care of his women. LOL

I do not plan on having a garden this coming Spring because we are planning on a cross country move...if I were, I would move them and make them their own area.

Cetawin, I hope cross country means closer to my side of the world. . . .and your Thor, like his namesake, certainly can "hammer" the opposition.

The warmer weather got "pushed" here-THANK YOU!- but it's gonna be a long slow melt. I called the highway department and it may be late tomorrow before they get here- I need to quit moaning and groaning, we never lost electricity for more than a few moments, and I have plenty of feed and food on hand!

Laney, what's it like over there?
