I need to rant for a minute...I finally let the delaware girls and boys out to free range yesterday and today with the better weather and what happens today.A mean hawk got what I thought was my second best Dellie girl.I'm sick about it.I think that white just sticks out.I have hawks everywhere at my place. They want mess with the grown birds with a roo but they will get them teenagers. She was about 16 or 17 weeks old.

Oh, James, that is just awful! I feel your pain, having lost 2 of my Silkies to hawks just recently. We were all outside today, and watched as 4 hawks kept circling over us. We quickly grabbed our netting, and began that chore.

Kathy - Polly called Cannoball today and she really wants to come to live in kentucky with Cannonball. So, pack her bags I will be by in about 3 weeks to pick Polly up.

JamesA I am sorry about your loss...the Dels do stick out for sure.

BTW Miss Cannoball is outside in the agrden romping around by herself. The weather was clear but very iffy so I elected to let her out of the doggie crate without everyone else so if the rain comes I can grab her up quickly and not worry about everyone else getting soaked. She is happy to be outside but calling to Thor, who is in the garage answering her. Ah young love...so sweet.

Awww, I am so happy to hear that Miss Cannonball is doing well and enjoying the weather. BUT, she needs to stay off the phone! Miss Polly is in confinement for that little conversation!

I'm tellin' ya, Polly is one of the prettiest gals I have! Really, she is gorgeous! I wish I could photograph her lovliness. That deep dark blue with lacing that she gets from her daddy, Suede, just makes you wanna pet her all the time! She is gonna be big like both of her parents, for sure!

She is so gorgeous, Kathy, just a real beauty. I'm happy you have her. Seems Meg throws more daughters than sons, but her sons are handsome boys, too.

James, sorry about your loss. Hawks were flying all around us today, redtails mostly. They swoop through the yard and sit in the trees. No losses yet, but I'm sure it's coming one day.

Miss Cannonball is doing well, then? How's Thor's poor comb?

Isaac was up on the top roost bar, sitting between Caroline and Ginger. They kept looking at him funny and he'd look back, like, "What are you doing here? This does not compute." But he has not insisted on mating any of them today, just stood guard in the pen like he always does.

Cyn, WOW! That's all I can say. I felt lucky thinking I was getting maybe a dozen Dell eggs and a couple Blue Orps. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

If you'd like to send Meg's egg then I'd be perfectly happy having it. Sometimes crossed chicks do tend to be the absolute cutest and most productive you can find, from what I've found. I just read through the Meg thread and those chicks are cuuute! Meg better have popped out a little girl for me, I don't wanna get too attached to a little roo only to have to rehome him. I'm crossing my fingers to at least get 1 pullet from eggs sired by Suede.

I was thinking about popping a few of my own in the 'bator, but now I'm not so sure... Let's see 28 of yours... plus 16 BW Ameraucanas,

44 possible fuzzy butts coming my way.

Oh dear.

JamesA, sorry about your loss. Before I covered my run with netting I lost 2 Dells to what I'm pretty sure was hawks. I never saw it happen, they just disappeared without any sign of them leaving. This did happen when they were pullets rather than hens. I've seen a hawk every once in awhile but never seen him try for the girls, who knows?

Thor's comb is almost healed...just a little black on it now.

Cannonball is doing good but funny thing...she laid an egg in the garden that rolled off the compost bag she laid it on and down between it and the fence. LOL It has a great hard shell and then get this...about 11pm tonight Cheyenne comes runny out of her bedroom yelling "Mom MOM come quick". So I naturally freaked out and went in and there was an egg broken open on her floor...it was paperthin on one side. But Cannonball had not been out of the doggie crate except to the gardn. So 2 eggs in one day? Did Cheyenne squeeze an egg out of her carrying her back to the crate? WTH? LMAO

So, the packing continues and in the morning is coop clean, fixing hardwire cloth on Severus' coop, letting Thor and his girls romp in the garden, Severus and Penelope in the tractor outside and Sirius and Dracosnotrag in the little coops. *sigh* Draco still hates only me...I thumped him on his beak yesterday for biting me...he does not do it to anyone else. grrrrrrrrrr

I am so glad Isaac is doing well with those other girls.

Oh get this...I am considering taking my camera to the vet appointment on the 19th....I think a pic of dr. Joe examining Thor is in order...just the shock of that boy's size should be picture worthy...no?
