I'm about to sell off three big dark RIR ladies if they don't quit picking at Dutch's comb. They're so sweet and never bother anyone...except Dutch. Pretty soon, I'll have to repopulate my entire flock if this keeps up.

At least one rooster's problem is solved, but poor Dutch is in almost the same predicament as Isaac was.

So my inbox is full, I was going through old messages to decide which to delete and which that I'd need to keep and I found this picture,

It's one of Cynthia's dwarf Delaware chicks. I forgot how cute it was. Is it wrong of me to hope that one hatches out of the eggs she sent me? Cyn said something about leg problems in the birds, as long as it could keep up with the rest I'd keep her, or him.

There are several types of dwarfism and I've recently found from a vet who is studying it (Cetawin's), that a hen can carry a double dwarf gene! Could be it was just one of the hens all by herself. Some dwarves are just small, some have minor deformities, etc. The last couple of batches have not had any dwarves in them, so still don't know which hen it was.

OMG the sun is out! Cheyenne took the Dellies and Orps out to the garden and the ladies wanted nothing to do with Thor...they only wanted to chase bugs and look for worms in the garden soil. Thor danced his little heart out but the girls were having none of it. Cannonball's beak looks fabulous but she would not hold still today for pics of it, she was busy busy running around. They have been cooped up for a week now because of the snow and rain.

I had to do a double take for a minute ..... Someone must have sent you one of my pictures. That is my picture.

No, you do not want the dwarfing gene. It is not a nice thing to see, at least in my cases.

Cetawin, So glad you have nice weather today, and the flock is enjoying it! Most of all, so happy to hear that Cannonball's beak is healed! That was a scarey thing! Your pictures show that your flock looks great!

Cyn and I were discussing the genetics behind the dwarfing gene when I originally asked her for eggs, that's one of the pictures she sent me as an example.

Did that chick make it? Do you have any recent pics if so?
