Could it be BBS? (Blue/Black/Splash)?
Congrats on that pip! Keep us updated!

Guess what ..... I heard the egg song this morning! I am now hopeful that they will lay before they are a year old now! They will be 19 weeks old Saturday.

My chicks that hatched this past weekend are just growing like crazy! I love those cute little feathers coming in on the wings. I have 3 monster sized huge chicks ... 1 black Orp and 2 Dels. Just huge!

You all have a great day!

I was part of an egg swap, and the eggs included a really neat little poem. The line is question is "We JBS from varied pens are from mottled cocks and hens"???? The eggs are fairly small. smaller than the mottled cochin eggs and larger than the silkie eggs.

Way to much fun today.

Pips

first goose egg from Mrs. Bob

and fun new eggs to add to the bator.

Yipee!

The only JBS I can think of is the corporation that is trying to buy Pilgrims Pride.

Or maybe they've already bought it. It's a Brazilian company. No idea what breed that would be. There are Japanese Bantams, but don't think that's it or what would the "S" be for? Unless its plural? Maybe JBs as in Japanese Bantams? The eggs would have been really small, though.

Yay! More Dellie babies on the way! Good luck with the hatch, Zephyrcreek- I am sorry you have to go to work- but you will come home to fun.

Kathy- excellent!!! The egg song! It is on our top 5 All Time Hits here - hope your girls start cranking them out soon!

Boy this was escapee afternoon!!!

I went out to check on the adolescents and the chicks in the brooder. The Adolescents don't have a window so I like to let them out ever day. I didn't think I'd have time today but I left the coop door open for a few minutes and two Java's bolted for freedom.

Not really a problem because although they won't let me pick them up, they are pretty good at knowing where home is. So, I decided to just let whoever was feeling the need for some sunshine (ok, cloudshine) to come out and pick at the grass (ground) and I'd round them up and herd them in when I was done with the chickies. Well as I'm bringing the refilled H2O back to the chickies I hear a yell of "BIDEN!!!" and my daughter who was bringing feed for the new chicks.

Being the enthusiastic and hugely fair minded child that she is she ditched the 7lb feeder full of feed on the ground, sped through the fence to chase Biden who was attempting to mate one of my adolescent Java's. These Java's are about 1/8th his size...probably the size of a bantam pullet. They are 6 and 7 weeks old now, but are a slow growing breed. It's amazing how he only tries to mate the pullets.

So I tried to get the Java's to go in, no luck, they really want their cloudshine. So I head back to the Chickies...and there is one on the ground under the brooder, about a 3 foot jump! My Inlaws Shih tzu waiting on the other side of the fence for this clueless little thing to wander close enough to the fence for his paw to maybe fit through and bat it around.

Of course here is this tiny little Delaware fuzzybutt who climbs into my hands constantly in the brooder who now wants nothing to do with me because it is terrified! Took me a few minutes to get it back in, at which point after a headcount every single Delaware tried to climb into my hands at the same time. I think they were all shook up by what happened.

They had their lights out for about 3 hours this afternoon when temps inside the brooder rose to over 100*. We have a thermometer in there that sends the temps into the house. When it dropped back to reasonable temps we turned the lamps back on. Under the lamps is the THerm temp + 30* so when it hits 100* in the brooder it's 130* under the lamps. There is plenty of square footage for them to get away from the lamps, and we never put their food and water under the lamps, but that's a bit too warm for my tastes!
