OMG a dust mop trying to bat around chickens...Laney what next? lol You had a day of it huh?
I took pics a bit ago of the babies....and I tried to get a close up of Cannonball's beak....I stood outside the fence this time so no one was climbing on me. hahahaha
poor Casca was standing on the deck next to the garden and Thor was on the other side of the fence staring him down when pup slipped and fell towards the fence...the fun started. Thor puffed up and raised himself up...puppy tried to get away and was running away down the fenceline with Thor on the other side of the fence chasing him. hahahaha Pup learned his lesson I do believe...fence or not that Rooster was gonna eat him. 90 lbs dog fears 9 lb cockerel! hahahahaha Gosh i need a video camera. You will notice Thor watching him one of the pics...his neck is flared a bit. hahaha
ROFL... those Dogs do learn that it doesn't matter what size those Roosters are they can open a can huh!
I can just picture you there laughing and wishing you had a video camera!
Can you have Thor give Biden a call please? He needs a lesson in manners. He is everything I could want in a rooster, but I'm afraid he isn't everything that my Hens could want in a rooster. He is very demanding, and won't take no for an answer. He is also very forceful and doesn't seem to mind any damage he does while getting the job done.
Laney
ETA: We had 9 eggs all over the barn floor today! I think someone didn't collect the eggs like she was supposed to last night, still we have only 6 hens of laying age including Libra who has just started laying!!!!
Isn't Lavender a recessive gene Kathy? It might not show up in the first generation, you might get some split birds, I dunno?
I've thought about trying to make some BBS Delawares! That' be fun. But considering I haven't the faintest idea about genetics, I wouldn't know where to start.
JamesA said he was going to work on Coronation Delaware- would the lavender help with that?
I keep saying this, but it's worth saying again. I really hope Ultrasuede grows up to be like his big brother Thor. Cannonball looks good - I couldn't see the owie. She and Fattie both look great. Athena is really intense looking- wow!
Tacey, you are going to catch up to Kathy in numbers chickens. Can't wait to see your pictures!
Laney, I can just see you with Delawares stuck on every part of you-
Well, since I have extra Lavenders, and extra Delawares .... I think I am gonna try it. Just for fun, what the heck! I might throw my 4 Light Sussex in with them, also. I'll have a pen full of white and lavender feathers!
Kathy I will tell you one thing...Delaware crosses are NOT attractive birds. Ask Cyn about it she and I both think crossing them results in well ugly things. That is why Ike will not have any offspring from hence forth. He is in a mixed flock now and she will not allow anything ugly to come from Isaac.
Good luck with your project but you have been warned of the resulting ugly.
Laney, dang Biden needs to straighten his act up...those women will plot while he sleeps and he will get gang attacked if he keeps that business up. Thor can be pushy but never demanding besides...the girls run much faster than he does. But he does try to catch one every now and again. I shall discuss your problem with Thor tomorrow while escorting him to the garden. I shall let you know his recommendations.
Beth, I may be crazy but I really believe most of Suede's offspring has his personality overall...he will settle down...if he is not showing aggression now, I doubt he ever will. Normally, it would have shown itself before now with all the girls at maturity level and such. Just keep doing what you are doing and focus on him. Cyn will tell you that when she and I are on the phone and I sltep outside....when Thor hears my voice he starts crowing. He will see me moving inside the house and run to the fence by the windows and wait for me to talk to him. I have always spoken to him when I went to brooder, the garage, the garden...he got my attention first in the small coop when I could get Cannonball off me....so just keep letting him know you are MAMA and he is top dog, so to speak....he will settle into a good boy. I do not think male orps are ever "lap" chickens but they can be so sweet in their own way. I was trying to recall Ultrasuede's eyes....you know both Thor and Athena have their daddy's wonderful flaw...light eyes and I think Ultrasuede has the dark eyes like he should...yes?
I can hardly see Cannonball's owie now either...she has healed so well. YAY I am editing the post aboe to put the pic of the beak injury in for comparison.
You all know my project....Thor crossed with my Splash Cochin, Luna = Fat sassy feather footed orps.
We shall see what they look like after I get settled in Kentucky and get those two together. hehehehe
I'm thinkin .... there was a thread about Coronation Sussex, and David (the genetics genius) said you could make one with a lavender and a Light Sussex. Of course it wouldn't be "pure" Sussex. But, it would look like a Coronation. So, why not try it with a Delaware? Hmmmm, I'll just throw them all in together and see what I get. I don't know if it would show in the first generation, but it will be fun. You are probably right though, the Lavender Del would probably look, "dull," I imagine. I gotta go look for that thread, and see what David said.
BTW, cetawin .... I'm glad to see Cannonball looking well !
