I've thought about sleeping in the room the incubator is in so I can be near them when they start pipping. I've been told though that that would confirm my status as the "crazy chicken guy" by my friends at work. L0L.

They just don't understand.

SO, now you are free to sleep right next to the bator!

The most exciting time to me was the first time I ever heard peeping. It was my very first incubation, and it was like day 19 or 20. I kept hearing it, and finally I realized it was not my imagination! I jumped online, to BYC, in a panic, and I posted in the incubation section. I was terrified and excited at the same time! I woke up my sleeping daughter to come listen and confirm for me! LOL

Germaine ....
You have the lovliest stock!
Look at those Delawares! Fat and Sassy, I would say! Love them!

With all the time I spend on the forum while at work, most of my co-workers would probably agree. My boss has started to call me chicken boy, because about 90% of the time chickens are what I talk about.

Your very first post! We are so happy you joined us! My understanding is that they do fine in hot weather. I think they would do well in Texas. It seems their large combs and waddles aren't the best in the cold, as they can get frost bite. Hot should be fine.

Welcome to the Delaware thread!

HotHouseChicken- welcome! Get those Delawares, you will LOVE them- they are friendly, funny, and smart. But please, if you can, get some from a breeder-

Jeremy- whoopee!! I"m with Bassleg - I can't wait for pictures!

Rwoman, those are beautiful hens- so plump and pretty- like Cynthia said - FEMININE!!!! How old are they?

Kathy- what's your egg count today? I had a 5 egg day yesterday, and I am delighted!!! BTW, is it just because they are MINE, or do Delaware eggs taste just a little better than any other farm fresh egg???

Cynthia- the sun should shine on us starting today!!!!!!!

I want to correct my 5 egg day statement. Yesterday was a SEVEN EGG DAY. I never thought about checking the run when I put them up last night, and this morning as I picked up their treat plates, I found two eggs in the run. . . . .7 out of 8 girls laying for sure and they are 20 weeks old this week.

Cyn, PLEASE tell Isaac what a good Daddy he is, and if you have any of the hens left that laid these kids of mine, tell them they are glorious girls- everyone I have told about how early these girls are laying are SO impressed!
