Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

She's HOME!
wee.gif
Finally! She arrived yesterday. I called her and have her new phone number at last. The house is, well, shall we say, not well-decorated, but she'll put her own stamp on it. Says she likes that it's well-laid-out, but get this: the neighbor's chickens free range on her property. Um, that won't work at all!

<whooosh of relief> I'm so glad she is home. All the kinks will work themselves out. The neighbors and she will find some way to co-exist and keep their chickens unto themselves. The unflattering decor will change one room at a time. And she'll get her rear end back on the internet!!!!!!!!

Yay!!!! She's home!!!! WELCOME HOME CETAWIN!!!!

Decorating is the FUN part- the best part of any move!! A little paint here and a little paint there can do wonders. And if she gets hard up for ideas, Cyn can always send her a series of photos of Suede! Or she can ask us for ideas and get an earful!!!

Scott and Kathy- Thank you - I had written that color chart down when it was posted before- which was why I was asking about the blacks. I knew Scott was getting a splash roo from Cyn, (unless, oh horrors, did it not turn out to be a roo?) so I though he would get his blues from the splash roo with good black hens. . . . one way of breeding up, it the blacks were really good. But you all are WAY ahead of me with this stuff, I am scrambling to catch up.

Delaware story for today. These little stinkers. Fusspots. Dingalings. I have carried everything from posts and posthole diggers to rolls of black aviary netting to full bags of shavings and a big purple tub into their run. No reaction beyond Delaware normal snoopiness and Ultrasuede's eternal hope that all things I bring in are edible. . . . . .so I have been working on sectioning off one end for a separate run and brought in a 4 foot piece of wood fence that I was going to adapt for the gate. You would have thought I had brought in the Delaware eating dragon. They went bonkers and tried to go through the fence. Every time I have brought something in today they have gone flitty on me!
DH thinks it's cuz the last time I brought something into the run besides the normal food, water and coop cleaning equipment, 4 of them ended up in Freezer Camp. He thinks they think they are next!
Chickens!!!!

I got no splash Rocks from my hatch at all. And the blue cockerel had a side sprig, so went to someone who wasn't put off by that issue, so poor Scott didn't get anything from me this time. The one I thought was splash was actually the very light blue pullet we named Alice.

I'm still in good shape ladies....I have a little Splash Roo growing up right now (he needs a name!!). I just hope he has a better temperament than his daddy!! I'm planning to put him in with blue, barred and splash girls and I should be able to get ONLY Blue and Splash babies. If he isn't well tempered, I'll keep trying. I'm gettin' tired of mean roosters!!!

Also looks like out of 9 EEs, only 2 are roos. Cyn, I'll send pix when since I am new to these guys. Probably only going to keep 2 or 3 to give Pepper a few "extra ladies".

If all goes well, I'm also getting a new bloodline of Columbian Rocks next Monday from a breeder in Ohio. We'll just have to see if everything works out.

O wow, Cyn, somewhere along the line I missed out on Alice being the one you thought was a splash- Scott, ask the people here for name ideas- it's been pretty inventive so far-

I admit there about 10 other breeds that catch my eye by now, but I am still so happy with my Dels and Ultrasuede that I am not looking beyond more BBS orps for now- but I do envy all of you that have so many different things going. I still have my eye on space in the rose garden, but it's going to take a while to dig it out and get it done. Part of it needs to go to vegetable garden, too. I've been a slacker- I like my flowers.

BTW- they have finally all figured out how to use the ramp and to go in when it gets dark by themselves. I think Buckshot may have a vision problem, though - something with depth perception - he misses the mark on some things- like where the top of the food is- and on even the littlest jump- but he is staying such a sweetheart- he was actually brave enough to go over by the big Delaware eating dragon door while I was working and see what I was up to- no one else would, not even Lizzie.

Ultrasuede is getting prettier every day - I'll try for a picture this week.

Yard full o' rocks :

Knock on wood, I have yet to have a mean rooster. I know my turn is coming. Oh, I take that back .... my little splash silkie roo (Silver) tried to flog me a few times one week. Day after day for about a week he would run up behind me. It was quite comical. I booted him and chased him each time. He must have given up when I threatened to stew him, and told him I wondered what black bones look like!

Scott,
Some, "Blue names" .... shades of blue could be names: Beryl, Cobalt, Indigo, Navy, Royal, sapphire, Teal, Turq (turquoise), Marine (ultramarine), Denim, Sky, Ocean, Lagoon, Berry (blueberry), Bruiser (a bruise is blue), Levi (jeans, but Cyn got that name), Wrangler (jeans), other name brands of jeans .....

Lee jeans

Calvin Klein jeans

Vanderbilt ( for Gloria Vanderbilt jeans)

Tommy Bahama jeans

Or since he is splash, you could name him Splish (Splish splash, I was takin' a bath. . . )
or
Dash Riprock

Or I could just shut up now.

So the two little baby Delawares with the feet problems don't seem to be getting much better. The one with the lesser problem that looks like it has pigeon to is doing okay, but the dimes on the feet don't really look as if they're doing any good. Both feet still are turning slightly in. This chick is eating and drinking regularly with the others.

The other chick with what I believe is spraddle leg has changed much at all. It will not walk unless pushed into doing so. Then it usually falls forward on it's face and cannot manage to get back up without help. Today I found the poor little thing stuck underneath the food tray with the others trampling all over it. I though it was dead for sure, but no, it was just laying there being pitiful. It doesn't seem to make much effort at getting to the food or water. I'm worried that it may pass because it will become malnourished, I wouldn't want it to suffer through that.

I'm wondering if I should cull the chick with the major problems? I don't know how long it's going to take it to get better, if it even will. Would it be the humane thing to do? What would you do?

I need help experienced Del owners, I don't know what to do. I feel so horrible.
