Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Well what the heck are you doing that big ole scarey thing on your head around Ike? He was probably trying to figure out how to kill that bad predator that was trying to eat his mama. You should be shamed of yoself.

Oh yes we have some interesting conversations for sure...and just because you are both Cynthia does mean there are any similarities (thank Creator). Conversations with my sister last 4 minutes 8 tops...heck we are talking to chickens that much when we are gabbing or you are talking to my crazy dog. LOL

That crazy lunatic Fattie tried hiding in the tree again tonight but I got her butt before she got 8 or 10 feet up. Thor was proud of me too he was standing there watching me and waiting for me to chuck her down to him. When I did chuck her down to him...he thunked her on the head and bit her butt when she went running past him.

He will learn her with my help. Now if Cannonball sees what is going on and she starts this tree nonsense I am kicking Fattie's butt...I am too old for tree climbing dang it.

Fattie has you trained already!!!! Can you cut off the first branch she jumps to without marring the beauty of the tree too much? Unless you really LIKE climbing after her!

Really, what would any of us have done without Cynthia? She has mentored us well-

Do Isaac and the girls fly around trying to get out of the run when you wear the hat, or bring in something strange, Cynthia? Mine have an aversion to the hood of my raincoat and ANY piece of plywood larger than my hand......they can fly at least as high as my shoulder. Luke and Ultrasuede also use what sounds exactly like the egg song as a warning cry- anyone else's boys do that? Or are mine confused?

Vaccinations- I know nothing. I think you can only do Mareks in the first hours after they hatch, right? the rest of it, you got me.

It's nice to know you feel like this is family, Kathy, and I appreciate that you don't think I say dumb things, Cetawin. And thank you, Tim, too! Hugs to every Dellie lover everywhere this morning!

Can we discuss smut and does anyone have a picture of what good black wing markings look like? Those feathers are usually hidden until they unfurl, and I don't know how much is too much.

As a relative newcomer to this thread (8 weeks), I have to say that the mix of chat and information is what started me reading it. There is a friendly banter here that does not go on on other threads that I have read, and you are a group that I wanted to get to know. I do see lots of help and answers and occasionally one question gets skimmed over for whatever reason, but on an active thread that is just bound to happen. If everyone makes an effort to answer questions, that is the best that can be done.

On to Dels, I lifted up Ellis my roo yesterday,(he doesnt like it much so I had to chase him down). He is some kind of hefty boy. He feels so different than the hens now, and every muscle was on alert. I think I understand what everyone means when they say chunky boy now.

Yesterday I was watching the birds from my perch (otherwise known as chair) and decided I would try to immitate the trilling sound that I heard the birds make the other day about a hawk in the sky. Sure enough, when I made the sound, all of the chickens ran under the coop and hunkered down looking in the sky for big bad hawk. I speak chicken

I agree with Chksontherun I just found this thread yesterday. I mainly came cuz I took some delaware eggs offered on crazy egg chain and wanted to read up on the breed. I really enjoyed reading the last few pages of posts. Y'all got some funny stuff goin on!

did I mention that one of Speckledhens roos has a 5 pointer and one of the Western NY girls does too? How young is to young to breed a roo. She's old enough but of course he hasn't started to dance yet. I expect I'll try to put them together for the winter. What are the odds these two will throw decent combed birds?

Tim, I would hope your odds are good!!! I would marry those two off in a flash! My girls are a mixed bunch with their combs-I have a four pointer, two that are five, but one has an odd turn to one of the points, and the rest are 6 and 7, but Luke has, I think, 5 points. Maybe a teeny 6th one in front, but it's more like a bump.

Buffbeauty and Chksontherun- this thread is where I usually get the best laughs of my day- please, please post more often!

So, anyone know exactly what "good" wing black markings are?

Bah I do not think it is the roo that has to perfect technique...I think it is the wenches. They need to learn to squat properly and be still. I do not think it is fair to always blame the roo.

I mean....Isaac, Suede, Thor and Ultrasuede for example....they are all PERFECT!

ChksontheRun- I agree with you. This thread is wonderful! I have been addicted for a while, but haven't been following in the last month or so. Busy gardening and traveling.

buffbeauty- I SAW YOU BID ON THOSE EGGS. I was thinking about it. Those were Ellens eggs, zyphercreek, you will be happy with them. I purchased some from her a couple mths ago. I had a great hatch rate and they are all doing really well.

I hope everyone is having a great morning! I love the daily banter, although I have been overlooked a couple of times too. Still the homeyness of this thread is wonderful, that is why I keep comming back! I will try to get pictures today of all my 1st batch of Dellies. Talk to you all later~ Tacey
