Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Kathy, I love your pictures and explanations. You have a handle on that SOP. I am trying to figure it all out.

Scott, Great pictures. Love those barred rocks .... look like they have stripes in their pajamas! I am so entertained by mine. I notice some are feathering slower than others, even the ones from the same stock.

I gotta tell ya .... these Dels from Claudia have some excellent roos, I do believe. The girls are lighter in the hackles, but these boys look fabulous!!!!

Well last night I noticed Nick is sleeping the coop with the young ones. Maybe he's got his eye on those young girls. Anyhow maybe the young guys will learn to do the dance like he does too. It's probably a good thing he's with the young guys so they get along. I want to keep the 5 roos from your eggs though I don't know if thats good or bad.

They're all growing nicely. I'll get some pics soon. Things have been so busy here. I'm trying to get rid of some of the other girls so I can replace them with Dels. I'd like to keep an assortment but choices must be made. Even still I've got three Del chicks with broodies. Two look like they may be pullets but they're young yet. I think I probably feel about Dels like some folks feel about Silkies. Though I have no idea why they feel the way they do about Silkies. I think if you got some of those "duster" things they sell at Walmart and stuck them in the yard you wouldn't know the difference.

Sorry the only thing worse than a silkies is the Boston Red Sox.

Naahhhh. I'd say they were the same.

Ok I'll stop.

Kathy, Jacob is looking very nice! It's so hard when you want them be be all grown up so you can see the finished product, but at the same time you want them to stay young!

Kathy,
I like Johnny, and I think this is a nice picture of him.
Why do you like Ben better? type? or coloration?

I am gonna have to post pictures of the Del roos that I think are sooooo nice (so far), from Claudia's and Cyn's hatch. I am having a hard time parting with any of them, because I really really want to watch them grow and see how they turn out.

Kathy, I like Ben better because Johnny is SOOOO yellow. So I gues the answer would be coloration. Ben also has better wing carriage. If I could mesh the 2 roos together, I would have the perfect Del Roo

Ben's tail is wrong but he has a good comb-5 pointer. Ben has awesome wing carriage and is bigger than Johnny.
Johnny has a better tail, a good comb and is a good size, but is yellow and has lower wing carriage. I hope to get some good pics of them side by side to compare. And Ben is just SUPER SWEET. Johnny is just a big chicken

he runs away from affection.
So when do we get to see more pics from your flock Kathy???

ummmm Cynthia...let us not forget Phoebe....Cannonball's mama. Cannonball has little to NO markings and her tail is faint few markings. She is a hoot like Sugar too.

Those two roos are both handsome...I like Ben's body but I like Johnny's head better for some reason, but I am weird I like what I like which is rarely ever "correct to standard". LOL

Anyone want Fattie... $5 and you climb the tree to get her? That tree climber is ticking Thor and I both off!

I am about to cut the dammmmmnable tree down.

Since 2 am this morning my day has been a excitement filled fun fest....NOT!

2am - Thor begins alarming in the coop, loud enough for me to hear him inside with the AC going....he progressively gets louder so I look around the coop with a flashlight and notta. I come back inside and get to the diningroom on my way out to the back deck to look...the ducks below me in the garage start going nuts. So, Thor, Severus and every chicken I own is raising heck, the ducks are going off and I am totally confused. So, I went down to the basement, grabbed my M1 came back upstairs and went out onto the deck to look around the back yard. I see nothing but everyone is still going nuts. I decide to go back out front and before I can turn around all sorts of ruckus breaks loose on the right side of the house...ie between the house and the coop. Out of nowhere come running 2 coyotes. I immediately shot one and dropped it at the corner of the house. I expected the other one to go right and into the woods but it kept coming and was heading right infront of me....so I dropped it in the middle of the yard.

About that time, I hear DH running down the stairs and getting locked and cocked. He asks what the heck is going on...I tell him no worries I killed them. He goes out to look and about fell over. 2 coyotes dead....both get this...males. One of them he weighed with his hanging scale and it tipped 65 lbs. the other one was much smaller There were no signs of them trying to get into the coop, no way Thor could see them unless he was on top of the bail of hay in there and the yote was in front of only one of the windows. The ducks cannot see anything from inside the garage...yet everyone was going nuts. So, I have no idea how Thor knew they were out there unless they ran past the coop really fast or bumped a door or something. But...2 coyotes gone, birds all safe and Thor got berry multi-grain pancakes for breakfast.

Yes roosters can get louder and louder and louder....that boy was loud enough for me to hear him over a central AC unit running and everything locked up tight.

I try to talk to their Grandma in GA on the telephone and Thor insists on crowing continuously...even to the point of walking up to me sweetly and then crowing a foot from me. So, I go inside so I can hear her and the stupid Casca (dog) starting his "talking"...he wants to talk to Cyn on the phone...soo back outside I go and it just kept repeating itself until my lawn guy called in and I took that call.

Also...a worthy note for all Dellie owners....Dellies DO NOT like lawn tractors! Our lawn guy was here this evening mowing and he came a day early so the birds were out free ranging. Nosey Dellies go over to watch him remove the equipment from his truck...he fired up the lawn tractor and all HELLLLLO broke loose. They screeched, ran in circles, screeched some more and carried on like two complete idiots UNTIL their man came charging around the corner to see what was amiss. He literally skidded to a stop, took in the scene and then proceeded to chase the lawn tractor with the intent of killing it!
th.gif
Sooooo this meant me chasing him, him chasing the man on the mower who was oblivious to the commotion going on behind him.....ever try to gently tackle 11+ pounds of ticked off rooster on the run, note we were running downhill? It ain't pretty! This boy of mine is going to be the death of me right along with his tree climbing Dellie woman and his getting into everything other Dellie woman.

So let it be said, let it be written and let it be known - Thor HATES all dogs, most cats, most critters large and small and lawn tractors....he is making it his mission to kill all of these that come into the yard.

Oh and btw Cannonball was being a total angel today except for her outburst and silliness over the lawn tractor.

I need a drink...anyone got a nice Chianti handy? hmmmm

Cetawin-Wow that must have been a scene! I would have loved to see that for myself. What a great story... and the poor lawn boy wouldn't have even known what almost hit him. That would have been really funny to watch. You could have sent that one in to AFV.

I AM GLAD NOTHING WAS HURT BY THE COYOTES, GOOD GUN SLING'IN BY THE WAY.

popcornpuppy- I love Johnny he is beautiful. Where did you get your stock?
