Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Cyn, I know all this hurts, but you would never be happy putting that kind of distance between yourself and your wonderful birds. You are too loving a person. It just stinks that it's a fallen world, and the price we pay for love is in the pain we feel when these things happen. Don't despair! Take a deep breath and do what you must do to try to help them. And keep loving them! We are here for you!

Thank you, Beth. I am just so down right now. Trying to make a quilt and not enjoying it at all. I'm so worried about Isaac and Nugget and that's on top of Ivy, Olivia, Tux and Ginger. And can't seem to run the chlorine out of the well after dumping a gallon of bleach down it when they replaced the pump to kill bacteria so my normally wonderful water smells like a swimming pool.

Sweetie,I think it will take a day or two for the water.

Just plug your nose.
And as far as Ike, Ivy, Nugget, Tux, Livvie and Ginger go, you are doing the Lord's work on earth with them, He sees and blesses you for it as you are doing it with love. And you are also getting their love in return- that wonderful thing which has surprised us all about chickens-
It IS hard, it DOES get you down - we have them for such a short time. I was sitting watching my four Orp girls tonight, thinking how Desiree would be busy plotting surprise attacks to scare Silk and Satin if only she was still with us. I was also overjoyed to have Katia and Valentina squat for the first time when I went to look them over for mites (still haven't found any on anyone else). Time goes so fast, you just have to pour out what love you can while you can.
I wish you were a little closer, I'd drop off more chocolate!

Sorry I'm late friends.

I just got wind of this.

Cyn, you do whatever you feel is necessary to assure that Isaak is with us for many more years to come! Don't worry about the bill. We, your friends, have your back sweetie!

For all of those times that you've helped so many of us through fretful hours with sick chicks, wounded roos, girls with every issue imaginable, we couldn't even begin to repay all of your past kindnesses. Each of us knows what that magnificent boy means to you! Please, take him to the vet and let us pick up the tab. Isaak simply MUST survive! And maybe it might be minus one toe. After seeing how well my Ginger gets around on her completely wonky toes, I know one missing toe won't slow Ike down one bit!

I know this is a tough time for you Cyn. We haven't had to replace either the pump, tanks or switch on our system yet [knock on wood!] but I'm well aware of how expensive these things can be. And let's face it.....a military retirement doesn't go as far as it used to, does it?

**OH SNAP! That's a thought! If/when you take Ike in to the vet, ask if they give military discounts! You might be surprised. I always ask everywhere we go. I'm often amazed at all of the places that do give military discounts. Some you never would have thought of doing so!

** Sorry, that thought just popped into my head and wouldn't leave me alone until I took it out of there and shared it!

I don't know what other words to use that haven't already been expressed about you and Isaak, Cyn. But know that he's definitely in my prayers for a speedy and complete recovery. He has his age and overall exceptional health working in his favor. Add to that the fact that he loves you so much and is willing to be a good boy for you through any and all procedures performed on him for his benefit, and it will likely mean that he can be properly tended too with minimal fuss and stress. That has to count for something!

Plus we're all cheering for him! So much good Karma directed at one sweet little man just has to be answered in the positive!

Hang in there sweetie. I just know, under your caring and concerned ministrations, Isaak will definitely pull through! Please keep us posted, and please, PLEASE let us help!!

He's feisty, that's for sure. Won't know much till the next bandage change. Will give him the penicillin today--he had a whopping dose yesterday to get the ball rolling. I'm hoping he will just be minus a toenail and recover from this.

You guys are awesome, but I can't let you pay a vet bill. If I take him, we'll work it out. I just hope that if we do decide he needs it that Dr. Mitchell will see a rooster. He's an old retired military guy himself so he knows about pensions.

I realized that the girls have been picking at Isaac's wattles while he's been back with the flock. He had nothing wrong with them and now, the minor scabbiness on the edges is starting again. I may have to sell those three girls, even though I told myself I'd never again sell hens to keep a rooster like I did with Dutch (who later decided I was public enemy #1

I wonder if something like a hen saddle could be made for our boys with these gorgeously big wattles that could prevent the girls from pecking at them. Some sort of "wattle sack" or

There's gotta be some way to keep those pesky girls from pecking at our perfect boys!

Or maybe something that could be rubbed on them that would make the wattles and combs taste absolutely horrid to the girls???

Cyn, I'm so happy to hear that Isaak is feeling feisty this morning! That has to be a good sign. That he feels well enough to be feisty must mean that he's getting on top of this infection. I'm keeping everything crossed and prayers continue for his well being.

Oh, and yes, you most certainly can let us help pay for a vet visit!! This is what friends are for my dear! We help each other!
hugs.gif
You've helped so many of us over the years. Please, let us attempt to return the kindness you have shown others.

Dear Cynthia, do you have any idea of how many of our feathered friends you have saved from certain death with your knowledge and your willingness to share what you know? It would probably take all the fingers and all the toes of every member here to tally them all up! Isaak is precious to you, and therefore precious to us! A rooster such as he comes along all too rarely. He is a living testament to how wonderful a roo can be if he has been raised right with love, patience and understanding. He and you both are inspirations to the rest of us!

So let us help. It would mean a great deal to some of us to be able to return the kindness you've shown us, (albeit on a much smaller scale
