Sounds to me like Shadow is taking this whole princess thing a bit too far if you ask me!! She actually picked a fight with Nugget???!!!!

Hmmmm...I wonder how much her being egg bound had to do with that little bit of temporary insanity...or lack of good judgement to say the least! She's probably very lucky that Nugget is in a generous and forgiving mood this morning!

Oh, Cyn! What Cetawin said.....that goes double for me too! Yes girl! I was talking about YOU and only YOU. There's always lots of folks around here willing to help or give an opinion. But there's only one you who dispenses wisdom and sound advice with the level of genuine care and concern for the birds and the people who care for them, that is unrivaled anywhere on BYC, in my humble opinion. That counts a great deal in my book lady! A great deal indeed! Thank you. Plain and simple..... THANK YOU!!!

Cyn. I am so sorry to hear your problems lately. YOU ARE SPECIAL! Admit it and accept it. JMHO. You have sure been a blessing to this Grandmother and her beginning chicken exp. Why! I would not have Maxine, Misty, Velvet, or Stormy either if it were not for you and three beautiful little Delly babies and two rocks by way of Scott.
By the way Stormy has calmed down and is being a prince to his girls now. No more rough stuff. I guess since it was his first Spring he had to prove himself. He now lays with them and purrss like a cat. Its so funny because he is so big. I am so glad I did not rehome him.
Just hang in there. The water will clear up again, it does take awhile though.
I can remember when I went to get Stormy and Misty, seeing your beautiful white and black roo. His color was so beautiful. His comb so red. You could tell right away that he was well cared for as is Suede.
Just hang in there things will turn around again. Prayers for you and yours. Gloria Jean

Gloria Jean, I am also very happy that Stormy settled down. That bothered me a bit, that he wasn't behaving well.

I figured out what is wrong with Nugget--she's coming back into lay after her long broody period, over 3 months. She was on the nest, panting heavily, got off and cackled but no egg. Hope she's okay, but I'm a bit worried. Roosevelt is completely on his own now so I hope someone will take him to a new home very soon.

Amy, you're very welcome. It is nice to be appreciated. And you do have such a way with words, as Kathy said.

Do you think he might even keep the toenail Cyn? Or does that look like a no-go? I've never had one of mine loose a nail for any reason, so this is all new territory for me so far. I'm still keeping everything crossed that he fully recuperates from this. I know this hot weather isn't helping you one darned bit in fighting any infections. Things can turn septic so darn fast in the heat, it's down right scary! I'm so glad that you caught this situation so early!

Now see, right there proves that the bond that you have with your flock is such a special one. So many wouldn't have noticed until it was too late.

But you know your boys and girls so gosh darn well that you notice the moment something is amiss. Vigilant: That is what you are Cyn. And knowing how easily problems can crop up with the best of care, it makes your connection with your flock so much more important. I keep trying to explain this to my DH, but sometimes i think I'm talking to the wall.

He thinks I'm just making excuses to spend extra time with my babies..........well ok, so he's kind of hitting close to the mark there, but we're not going to tell him that, now are we???

Please keep us posted on how he's doing.................................

You know, all this talk of Del's has me wondering if two of my little mutts might have a smidgen of Dellie in them. I remember seeing a black and white bird very, very briefly in the flock that I got my eggs from. With just the quick glance that I had of her, I thought she was maybe a very young LB, but it may have been a poorer quality of Delaware. If I post a picture of those two, do you guys think you could come to any kind of conclusions about their ancestry? I do know what breeds of roosters are in the original flock, and maybe that would help. Let me know if I should go out in that blazing hot sun and get some good pics of Evie and Prius.

Though I'm betting that they're hiding in the toy shed right now...it's every bit of 10 degrees cooler under there!
