Oh rats, that's right. It's getting time for those vicious little useless beings to get crabbier than normal and plague us all. I have to start watching things more closely out in the yard.

Glad it was you that got stung instead of Colby, that's for sure! Very dangerous allergy! Keep that Epipen in Colby's possession at all times. That is scary!

Broodies, broodies, broodies! ha Good gosh, nobody will be getting any eggs if they don't quit with the maternal instincts!
Scott, I broke a broody with dunking her butt in a bucket of water several times a day. Well, that was step two of the process I used anyway. Step one was tossing her off the nest several times a day for a few days..... obviously did not work. Then the butt dunk for a few days ..... THEN ..... I put her in her own little sweet set-up and gave her a nice nest and eggs to sit on for 2 days. She never did sit on those eggs! That did it .... she hated it and went back to the flock.

Panda is sitting tight. When we closed them in, the egg was pipped just the same as this morning. Hopefully, tomorrow, we'll wake up to a cute little Fern baby and maybe Smoky's will be pipped.

Darn that Smoky-she bit me! She was on the roost, looking confused at roost time. Today, when we pulled her off the nest (to make sure she was broody and not injured and hiding), we put her egg in the bottom nest, whereas, she'd been in the top one all day. She looked up in the empty nest, looked down at her egg, then up, then down, then crawled on her egg in the bottom nest. Then when we went to close the doors, she was on the roost shelf, standing, looking like she didn't know what to do. When I reached for her, she screamed and bit me. Goofball hen. Will see if she's on the nest in the morning. Could be we snapped her out of it, but she can't stay in that nest-it's an old file cabinet, with nest barely larger than she is. It's way too hot for her to be in a metal box.

Cheyenne got bit by my Chocolate Ancona duck this morning...it appears she and a GWH girl have been hoarding eggs and hiding them under the straw and are duo sitting on them...so, I told Chy to put food and water in the dog crate and leave their butts in there. So, we shall see what the morning brings...

Scott those babies are absolutely adorable. There are only rare things more beautiful than a young fawn to me.

Well, I'm happy to report that not one single one of my precious and precocious little darlings did anything wrong today! Who are these birds, and what have they done with my flock??

Scott, sorry to hear you were the victim of the wrath of those dirty little buggers!

I hate yellow jackets. And I agree totally with Beth: Worthless creatures!

The next time you get stung, try this: soak the sting with a cotton ball soaked in ammonia. Just plain old household ammonia. Doesn't matter if its the lemony stuff or unscented. Just get it on there immediately. In about 30 seconds the pain and itch will both be gone. If not, soak it for another 30 seconds. Usually once is ample if you get to them quickly enough.

The chemistry of hornet venom is an acid, and ammonia is a base. The two cancel each other out. (I may have that backwards as to which is base and which is acid, but that doesn't matter. The end result is the same.

) So, try that the next time any of y'all gets stung! I learned that one from my friendly local pharmacist!

And it's a heck of a lot cheaper than that Sting-eez stuff!

Cetawin, I'm so sorry that you lost little ducky. Poor Cheyenne, she keeps being the one to discover the passing of a cherished member of flock and family. Tell her not to take it personally. Sometimes things just go that way.

I just hope you guys don't loose any more birds for a long time to come! And poor Severus! That's gotta be an ouch to his ego!

I just hope those two don't come to bloodshed with each other. You want me to send Brutus down to lend him a bit of emotional support and back up??

I can hardly wait for DH to wake up and tell me why there are 2 little Delaware roosters in my garage.

They look about 5 - 6 weeks old, so I am thinking someone brought them back to me.

Well, I admit that earlier I did play with them a little bit. They are very friendly, and the one on the right bit me! The names are up to you. You can decide that now or when they arrive at your house.

Serrin- thanks for that tip on stings- I told DH about it, and I am adding ammonia to my grocery list as one of the other of us is bound to get stung mowing this summer-

No one bit me, either. Although mornings are a hoot, and I keep my eye on the boys so I won't get pecked - Luke and Ultrasuede are NOT morning roos. They wake up very crabby and chase everyone around for several minutes before they settle down.

My chickie babies are still with us. For now, until I know can tell who is a roo, I have named the two with spots on their heads Spot ( aren't you amazed at my originality?) and Boo, the black one is hopefully Belle, and the Delaware is hopefully Emma.

Kathy, did roo #2 make it? I know you were worried about him yesterday.
