I am glad you got the dealwares. I love mine and was happy to hear DH tell me that he was telling some of the guys at work about them. I guess he likes them too.

countrychickengirl, I hope it will work out for you

Finally got some more pics of Fergus and Finn. It has been rainiy, cold and windy here the past few days.

Fergus and one of the girls.
here you can see he has one dark tail feather.

Thanks, yes Finn has a darker tail. He is a bit smaller than Fergus too since he is younger. One of the pullets does not have much black at all while the other two are like the one in the photo with Fergus.

Hillbilly Hen, the female Delaware in the first picture has a nice, chunky shape. With what looks like good color in her hackles.
However I don't much care for the overall color of either of the boys, especially in their tails and primary/secondary wing feathers.

Are the roos and the hens related?

Hehe, this boy is interesting to me.

He's very photogenic for some reason, always standing just far enough away for pictures, and he's HUGE so he's a slow mover.

Obviously, his comb is sloppy and kind of crazy and his coloring leaves a LOT to be desired, but there are other things I am liking about him more and more.

Now, I am an amateur, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I see that I like:

He has good wing carriage, close, tight to the body and basically parallel to the ground.

He has nice yellow legs.

His tail set seems to be at about the right angle, even though it is poorly developed and definitely too dark.

As he grows, he's starting to have a very round body.

And, as I mentioned before, he is VERY large. He is, oh, about 4.5 months old now, and towers over everyone in the pen.

To me, it seems like he's been slow to develop, but I guess it's really not that bad when I actually look at how old he is. I also know that a couple of his sister pullets (some of whom just started laying!) have very nice markings.

I'm wondering if he might be worth keeping as a roo for breeding nice pullets?

Rachel, at 4.5 months, I'd say he's coming along very nicely. Has he gotten through his first molt yet? From what I've heard around here, Delawares can take a long time to reach their full plumage and size. Probably about the same time as he grows a nice set of spurs, you'll likely have your answer. I think I'd certainly give him more time to develop. He might turn out to be a very pleasant surprise after all!
