Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Alexander is a womanizer. He is too busy flirting with the women to be human friendly. He dances all day. He is not mean or anything like that, but he just doesn't hang out with me like Jacob and the girls do.

As long as he is good to the girls, that is the main thing. Luke was a mad rapist. And I have my Boofriend and Ivan if I want "pet" roosters. Although, maybe I can win him over. ??

Make him up some special goodies just for him, and see what happens. Use the quarantine time to good advantage, and if you have the time, spend at least a half hour every morning and every evening in quiet companionship with him. Nothing demanding to start with, just quality quiet time. As he becomes more accustomed to you, you can then work on him becoming affectionate if possible.

With any other breed, I'd say that even at this age, you would have an uphill battle all of the way. But since we're talking Delawares here, I think you probably stand a very good chance of getting him to be, at the very least, approachable. That's not being a pet, but it still beats the heck out of what I went through with Griffin.

If you have the ability to keep him separate from every one for an extended length of time, you could work on him even further. It all depends on him and how he'll respond to you and his new surroundings. But once he goes in with his girls, all bets are off. I seriously doubt you could get his attention long enough to make any kind of real progress towards him becoming a "pet" rooster.

No matter what else happens, you'll be getting a beautiful boy to help with your own breeding program. If a "Pet" Delaware roo is what your heart desires, you could much more easily accomplish it by starting with a chick and raising him up to be a pet!

And thanks about the old aussie hen, shes a cuddle ..Shes spent more time sitting eggs this summer that any chicken weve ever had..bout time I broke up her little party thou.trying to convince her she needs to get ready for spring..got lots of baby lorps coming..Want her to take a long winter break. Were trying to time the aussies for around 6-7 months at show time they are at their best bloom then, and retireing the show hen to breeding pen and juicy bugg patrol. Plus I know I will get the call....Whats buttercups doing? can she set s0me eggs? little del eggs vannilla drops

Im hoping I can get a day with vindikes for some pictures..Pretty nice birds. I cant for the life of me figure out how they all stay so white..Maybe its the massive outside pen they have..But Ive seen them dirt bathing in a pile of white , well dirty chickens, next week you go up and they are sparkeling white..

Thank you all for the warm greetings. Yes i have to admit that i am a bit obessed - lol . Especially yesterday when Patsy just walked up to the fence and just stared at me for i swear five minutes- ruffled her feathers and sort of bowed at me! And who knew- but the girls got some slightly over ripened tomatoes as a snack yesterday ( have more tomatoes on the vine than one man knows what to do with) you would have thought i fed them filet mignon - they are doing well and hope to get some good pics soon. Of course the hunt for a very nice rooster may start - are there any breeders in Ohio that someone might know of? Or any coming to the show here in Columbus in the fall?
Thanks
Knox

I got my beautiful Delaware chicks home from Kathy. They are awesome chicks. Thank you Kathy for hatching them. I can already see there Delaware personality. I reach into the brooder and they come to me and peck on me and let me touch them. I'm sure we are going to get along just fine.

Yes Knox! The picture came out fine. And let me say, those are some beautiful little girls you have there. So, they've managed to gain mind control over you already I see!

You're a doomed man, Knox! Doomed I say!

Before you know it, you're going to be on the hunt for more Delawares to add to your little pair.

Just remember, no matter where you get them, or who you get them from: Quarantine! Quarantine! QUARANTINE!!!! Can't stress that enough! It could save the lives of your entire flock some day.

OK, now get out there and bring us more pictures of your girls!

We never get tired of looking at each others babies!

Well as they are solo "diva's" on several fenced in acres right now - they pretty much are quaratuined! LOL. When you say that - how long do you keep newcomers seperated before you introduce? My best friend has a flock of Cochins and a few Fantails so he has been helping me and giving me tips -etc. He helped me "dust" them yesterday with seven dust? Telling me it is for mites - tho he felt they look very healthy- sorry for all the newbie questions folks!

We don't mind newbie questions, we all were there once, and I still consider myself in that category. According to my sources at the APA, there will be a HUGE sale area at the Ohio Nationals, and sometimes breeders will sell birds in the show for take home after. Bring carriers and cash!!! I plan on going up there to look myself - if a short chunky lady with glasses steals a good Del right out from under you, it will probably be me!
