Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Oh Rachel, your boys are beautiful!!! I really like how round they are in the neck/chest area.

I've noticed my Roos tail angle is never the same.. it just depends on how he is standing? He's about 7 months old.. give or take. I've got to check with Stacy to see exactly...

Curious... Those with years of Delaware experience and/or those with large Delaware flocks: what has been your experiences with your ratios of broody hens and their mothering skills? Thanks

Haven't had any Del broodies, but mine are just a year old.

Folks, there were only 4 Dels at Ohio Nationals. We need to get this breed out where people can see them!

Some of my Dels come from very broody lines; at least, the first batch did, the one that contained Kira, Cassidy and Jake. Cassidy died at 24 weeks from a heart defect and Jake was culled for aggression at about the same age, leaving only Kira. Kira carried a double dwarf gene so she was sold, along with her daughter and another hen from Isaac's group, to someone who wasn't breeding them. I have not had any Delawares go broody and Janet Holtman was quite surprised since she has a couple that were very broody.

I haven't had them in large enough numbers to really know if they have the broody streak in them. Now, after losing Maxie to an egg issue, I have only two Delaware hens and Isaac, who will all be two years old in February. I have had several hens of different breeds go broody for the very first time after the age of two, so it could still happen for Ellie and Georgie.

The ALBC mentioned that Mr Morrow has been working with them trying to "recharge" the breed - i think it would be a good idea - meanwhile i sent an email back to have our club site posted for others to find!

Let's hope he accepts as well. If we can get some bigger names that are already out there, into the pot, and they are willing to help promote too, this could take off and be a VERY GOOD thing for the breed in general! I'm hoping!!!!!! It could be great for everyone involved, and SDWD could become a REALITY

I guess we are all gonna have to start the show circuit, now aren't we? I wonder if I could still enter the Shawnee show. hmmmm, I just don't know if I wanna give a bird a bath and do all that work. Hauling birds around in my car, etc .... I just don't know.
